Politically Incorrect

1998 AND THE LEFT

by Arthur Weinreb
January, 1999

During the 1960's protests by persons of the left persuasion became fashionable. Questions were raised at the time about whether the protesters actually cared about the causes that they were espousing, or were merely showing their dislike for capitalism, particularly, American capitalism. Certain events took place in 1998 which support the latter.

Animal Rights

In May 1998, it was reported by the National Cancer Institute that new drugs were effective in stopping cancer in mice. You would think that the animal rights weirdoes would give up dumping ketchup on little old ladies and lamenting the distinction of the dinosaur and celebrate. Nope.

The fact that little mice and rats need never again suffer a lingering death from cancer went unnoticed by the activists. Not a squeak. The animal righs' groups were more interested in stopping the profits from animal products than they were about the health and well being of rodents, whom we are told are as important as people.

Peace Activists

During the cold war between the U.S. and the former Soviet Union, thousands took to the streets to protest against nuclear weapons. Those two countries did not have a common border and had never been at war with each other. Even the Cuban missile crisis was little more than Khruschev trying to see how far he could push the rew rich kid from "Baston". No country was going to start an all-out nuclear war over Fidel land.

In 1998, both India and Pakistan announced that they had nuclear weapons. Unlike India and Pakistan, the U.S. and the former Soviet Union did not share a common border. Never in the course of history were the U.S. and the Soviet Union at war with each other. India and Pakistan, on the other hand have a common border, have continued border skirmishes and have fought three wars against each other since partition in the late 40's. The world is probably closer to a nuclear war than any time in history. Where are all the peaceniks? Maybe the peace activists don’t think that a nuclear weapon made in the Indian sub-continent really counts. “Ban the bomb” really meant ban the United States from having the bomb.

Feminism

In the last 20 years or so, feminism accomplished many of the things that it set out to do.

Women now hold positions previously barred to them and only a small minority think they should be kept in the kitchen with the kids. With not a lot left to do, many in the feminist movement are only interested in their left wing agenda. The enemy, a powerful man, can be excused from abusing that power as long as he agrees with the aims of the women's movement. One need only look at the women movement's reaction to Bill and Monica and Gennifer and Kathleen and…to see that.

The conservatives of the 60’s and 70’s were right.
