Chretien to Clinton: Get off of my cloud!

by Judi McLeod

March 17, 2003

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has leaked out word that Hillary’s boy Bill wants to succeed Kofi Annan as secretary-general of the United Nations. At their last summit in drought-plagued Africa, UN delegates dined on lobster, steak and what one British newspaper described as "pails of caviar". No detail was overlooked for summit attendees including--prostitutes.

"While it is still early, there is a major international move under way to make Bill Clinton the chief executive of the United Nations. Unbelievable? You had only to watch Clinton’s performance on a recent Larry King Live program. There, Bill, with his new haircut and coiffure blued to snowy-white perfection, made repeated adulatory references to the United Nations," says the newspaper’s brash Dateline DC column.

Well, as some of us north of the border would say in Nick Jagger of Rolling Stone fame language, "Hey, you get off of my cloud!"

Indeed, big plans seem to be underway to groom Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien for the very same position.

While Clinton may have the likes of Larry King as a shill, Chrétien has UN Pooh-Bah Maurice Strong squarely in his corner.

CanadaFreePress.com wrote about the Chretien-Strong `Send Jean to the UN’ campaign as front-page news on Sept. 23, 2002.

When it comes to UN job coveting, Chrétien may have been first off the mark.

"Many average citizens from around the globe were both shocked and saddened the Canadian Prime Minister would suggest that the U.S. had brought the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks upon itself," wrote CFP last September. "But Chrétien's remarks are neither original, nor even unique. In fact, they fit right in with those of the anti-American UN delegates, whose identical theories (on blaming the Americans) are legion.

"Indeed, in contemporary times, being anti-American could be the first qualification in the job description for a new UN secretary-general.

"Getting back to the theory that Chrétien may covet Kofi Annan’s job: UN poster boy, Canadian Maurice Strong, under secretary to the UN, and an old friend to Chretien, the late Pierre Trudeau and Liberal heir apparent Paul Martin, wields considerable influence over the UN.

"Prime Minister Jean Chrétien for UN secretary-general? Taken in that context, Chrétien's Sept. 11 assertions, albeit bizarre, make some political sense."

Now a little FYI for you Yanks in Pittsburgh, who may never have heard of UN Pooh-Bah Maurice Strong. Passionate socialist and New-Ager, it was Strong who used Canadian tax dollars to invest in a Costa Rican rain forest when he was CEO of Ontario Hydro. Canuck Strong first led the UN Environmental Program (UNEP), and, oh yes, our man Maurice is the main architect of the Kyoto Protocol.

Strong is Canada’s problem, not ours, you may be thinking.

Well, he is close friends with your media mogul Ted Turner who once gave him $1 billion, and Strong who owns a 200,000-acre ranch in Colorado, is much closer to home than you may think.

Why are two world leaders, one ex and one almost-ex vying for the same UN post?

The perks of being UN general-secretary may be well worth the competition. between Clinton and Chretien.

At their last summit in drought-plagued Africa, UN delegates dined on lobster, steak and what one British newspaper described as "pails of caviar". No detail was overlooked for summit attendees including--prostitutes.

In looking at which candidate is best suited to fill the shoes of Kofi Annan, we cannot definitely say which of the two is more anti-American. Is it Chrétien, or perhaps Clinton?

Chrétien, at least won’t waste time by forcing staff to check out UN washrooms when he goes missing.

But for sure, at least where anti-Christian Ted Turner is concerned, the Canadian prime minister has one thing against him--his initials.
