Bush Canadian State visit:
Guess who’s coming to dinner?

by Judi McLeod, Canadafreepress.com

November 24, 2004

News of the first Canadian State visit of a re-elected President George W. Bush has spread to the Arab world well in advance of the event.

"During the planned visit of President Bush to Toronto Canada next week, special measures have been taken by Security Services with regard to all those carrying Saudi passports, Al Sharq al-Aswd, London has announced (Memri.org., Nov. 23, 2004).

Al Sharq al-Aswd got it wrong. It is Ottawa and Quebec, not the country’s business capital where President Bush will be spending his time.

Rather than addressing Canadian Parliament, President Bush has chosen instead to speak at a big dinner at the Museum of Civilization on the night of November 30.

The Museum of Civilization sits on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, directly behind the Parliament buildings.

It is not the rowdy radicals led by members of the Toronto Coalition to Stop the War posing the biggest security threat in planned massive protests. Protesters along Toronto subway lines last night handed out thousands of anti-Bush brochures.

The protesters will be waving placards and shouting obscenities at Bush from across the river.

It is Al Qaeda that places the Museum of Civilization dinner in danger.

Michael Scheuer, a former CIA analyst and head of its bin Laden unit says Al Qaeda terrorists are nesting in Quebec.

Scheuer told the Toronto Star’s Washington Bureau he fears Al Qaeda terrorists may have put down roots in Quebec long before the world was alerted to the danger they posed.

Media reports indicate that Security will be intense in the nation’s capitol. But Ottawa, ready for the busloads of protesters heading out of Toronto, will be swarming with security to handle expected protests.

With the pocket of al Qaeda terrorists who now call Quebec home, it’s the Canadian passport and not just the more obvious Saudi one that Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) be on alert for.

At of today, it is not even known who will be invited to the dinner, although political and business people are already scrambling for an invitation.

Scheuer’s warnings can not so easily be blown off. His Canadian theories are rooted in first hand knowledge. Born in Buffalo, he studied Canadian-American relations at the Ottawa-based Carleton University and at the University of Manitoba, before joining the CIA.

Given Canada’s tolerant immigration policies, many agree with Scheuer’s theory that the Canada-U.S. border could never be fully closed to terrorists.
