Fear can sabotage the bravest heart

by Judi McLeod

January 30, 2005

Today, Sunday, January 30, 2005 is a Red Letter Day for the Free World. Today, Sunday, January 30, 2005 is the day of landmark Iraqi Elections.

Today marks the beginning of a someday sovereign Iraq, and today is also the day that spells the beginning of the much longed-for homecoming of the courageous american-led Coalition of the Willing's troops, young men and women who will return to homes where they are loved.

In the beginning, in Iraq the free world saw statues of Saddam Hussein toppled in the square.

In the end, it was the Coalition Forces, who secured polls for voters.

It was the american troops, who last week suffered their biggest loss since going into Iraq in a helicopter crash that claimed 31 souls.

Throughout all of it, men and women fighting for our freedom in the arena of war were criticized by mainline leftwing media back home.

Today, it is an inspiring reminder from an unknown man by the name of John Burtis with a message we send on his behalf to the troops in Iraq:

…"Not long ago, I found a message I thought I'd lost over the years," Burtis said in a December 9 email to Canada Free Press. Written by a Royal air Force pilot during the terror of the Battle of Britain, it was passed on by Colonel Robert L. Scott of the Flying Tigers in his best selling book, God is my Co-pilot.

"They who had scorned the thought of any strength except their own to lean on, learned at length how fear can sabotage the bravest heart. and human weakness answering to the prod of terror calls, `Help me, Oh God.'

"Then silence lets the silent voice be heard, bringing its message like a spoken word. `Believe in Me. Cast out your fear. No, I am not up there beyond the sky, but here, right here in your heart. I am the strength you seek. Believe.'

"as we face the horror of world wide terror, hobbled by an utterly corrupt UN, an effete party of appeasement, and an enemy which seeks to destroy every aspect of our Christian value system, let us steel ourselves for the struggle.

"We must believe."

Indeed, Mr. Burtis.
