Braveheart lights another candle

Not even death could erase the life on earth of Sister Maria Lucia of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart.

Fatima's Sister Lucia passed away on February 13, 2005 at age 97.

Less than three weeks after her death, comes word that actor/director Mel Gibson is planning to make a movie about the Miracle of Fatima.

For a second time, Braveheart will light a candle of inspiration during the dark days of Lent. During Lent 2004, The Passion Of The Christ was making news all over the world. Released to moviegoers on ash Wednesday, The Passion spreads a message of inspiration to this day.

It was Lent 2005, in fact the week of ash Wednesday, when Sister Lucia passed on.

Gibson will bring to life the story of three peasant children who were said to be given a prophetic vision of the future by the Virgin Mary at Fatima, Portugal in 1917, London's The Mail On Sunday reported.

The story was picked up on this continent by The New York Post online March 6 and was posted March 7 on www.spiritdaily.com.

"The follow-up to last year's gory depiction of Christ's crucifixion comes after Gibson met with one of the trio, Sister Lucia, before her death at age 98 last month," reported The Mail on Sunday. "Lucia and her cousins, Jacinta and Francisco had a vision of Mary that many believe predicted World War 11, trouble in Russia and the shooting of Pope John Paul 11."

Gibson, one of the last visitors to see Sister Lucia alive, went to painstaking lengths to arrange for a projector and a copy of The Passion to be brought to the Carmelite nun's convent, because members of her Order are not allowed to leave. He also visited with the nuns.

Buried at the Carmelite convent in Coimbra, Portugal, Sister Lucia's remains will be taken in one year to the Fatima shrine her life on earth made famous.

In telling the story of Fatima on screen, Gibson cannot help but bring inspiration to the throngs by enshrining the life of the beloved and now ailing Pope John Paul 11.

The hospital window from which the pontiff has been blessing those gathered outside would be a window opened to the world, documenting the role he played in Fatima predictions.

among the secrets revealed by the Virgin Mary to Lucia and her cousins in May 1917 was the shooting of Pope John Paul 11.

It was on May 13, 1981 when Turkish gunman Mehmet ali agca, nearly killed Pope John Paul 11 in St. Peter's Square with the shooting taking place on one of the anniversaries of the 1917 apparitions.

In a sign of gratitude one year after the assassination attempt, the Pope had one of the 9 mm bullets, which agca fired at him, placed in the crown of the Statue of Fatima.

"One hand fired the bullet and another guided it," Pope John Paul 11 once said of agca's attempt to kill him.
