Bizarre deaths seem to be the epigraph for Michael Schiavo's lawyer George Felos.

The right-to-die crusader seems to have the instincts of a vulture when a dying-with-dignity case becomes available.

according to an august 8, 1995 obituary in the St. Petersburg Times, James G. Felos, the father of George Felos died in "a heart-wrenching way".

In his 73rd year, James G. Felos died as the result of an accident in his own driveway, under the wheels of his wife's car.

Felos senior died of injuries he received when his wife accidentally hit him with her car, pushed him into the street, then backed over him, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. No charges were filed in the accident, which occurred on a Sunday afternoon, at the Felos family home on Darston Street, in Ridgemoor.

at the time of his accidental death, Mr. Felos was suffering from cancer.

"We're coping because we're following the advice he gave us: Celebrate and go on," Marilyn Felos-Shankman, one of two daughters said of her father's death.

at the time of her father's death, her parents had been married for 46 years.

"It's hard for her," Felos-Shankman said of her mother, "because it was an accident."

The way Mr. Felos met his death was shocking to the family. "Felos-Shankman said her father had fought colon and rectal cancer and was experiencing a reoccurrence. "I was expecting a phone call sometime in the future that he was dying of cancer," she said. But "he looked great. He felt great…Then this."

according to the St. Pete's Time's obit, "Mr. Felos and his wife, Jean, had moved to Florida in 1974 for "family and sunshine".

"Mr. Felos was a lawyer for more than 40 years and practiced with his son, George, at their firm, Felos & Felos of Dunedin."

at the time of his father's death, George had already gained prominence by having contributed to a landmark Florida Supreme Court decision that gave senior citizens "the right to die".

The father and son handled all sorts of cases, and not just right-to-die ones, according to Cindy Gray, their secretary for 12 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Felos were longtime members at Holy Trinity Church. Mr. Felos served on the parish council, and he was the church's attorney and financial adviser. at the time of her husband's death, Mrs. Felos, 64, was president of the choir.

according to his daughter, Mr. Felos, who liked to read and travel, took his wife to Russia "many times". In reading, he especially liked spy novels.

a graduate of Syracuse University and the University of Miami Law School, Mr. Felos was a former district attorney in Queen's County, N.Y. He campaigned unsuccessfully to be a Pinellas County judge in 1976.

an army veteran of World War II and a member of the Phi alpha Delta Law Society, Mr. Felos was a 32nd-degree Mason.
