Paul Martin Liberals flummoxed by Christian coalition

Toronto, ON-- Canada's ruling Liberal Party is going after the charitable status of Canada Christian College, whose principals run the Defend Marriage Coalition.

The coalition, an unwavering major resistance to Liberal same-sex marriage legislation, has drawn out thousands to protest Prime Minister Paul Martin's bill, and continues to capture mainline media headlines.

In the latest skirmish, long-term Liberal rat pack member, Don Boudria accused Canada Christian College CEO and Defend Marriage Coalition firebrand Dr. Charles McVety of breaching Internet rules and impersonating a member of parliament (a criminal act) in a recent Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) interview.

"He (Boudria) lied," McVety told canadafreepress.com. "all Defend Marriage ever did was to search available website names, found donboudria.ca available, clicked the Buy Now button, and paid the $12.95 before displaying a respectful information page."

McVety says lawyers for the coalition have confirmed that their purchase of sites with Liberal MP names is "100% lawful" and "breaches no Internet rules".

"Boudria's claim of being impersonated is pure hallucination," McVety says. "The Defend Marriage website plainly states in the middle of the page: `This is not the official website of Don Boudria, MP.'"

McVety and Company have become the one pebble the Liberals haven't been able to shake from their well-worn shoes. With the steadfast help of New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jack Layton, the ruling party has been able to dodge a non-confidence vote threatened by Conservative Opposition leader Stephen Harper. Even though they're caught up in the ongoing adscam scandal, polls show voters would vote Liberal in the next general election.

In other words, the Liberals have been able to outmaneuver all moves thrown their way in political strategy that has been breathtaking to watch. If only those busloads of protesters lured to the cause by the Defend Marriage Coalition would slide off the public radar screen.

One little detail has failed to emerge in the latest Liberal attack on Defend Marriage Coalition leader Charles McVety.

according to a yet another leaked Liberal memo, Boudria's CBC diatribe against McVety originated from an idea presented at last Tuesday's Liberal caucus meeting, when Liberal MP Mark Holland allegedly circulated a memo to begin soliciting participants for a stepped-up anti-Defend Marriage Coalition campaign.

It turns out that Holland is the political opponent of Dr. Rondo Thomas in ajax-Pickering Riding. Dr. Thomas, an active coalition member, is McVety's right hand man at Canada Christian College.

To the minority-status Liberals, there's also the little matter of the remarkable success of the coalition in being able to secure a plethora of Conservative ridings.

"Christian activists have taken over Conservative nominations in clusters of ridings from Vancouver to Halifax," laments the Globe & Mail.

For their part, the Liberals are getting strong support from an anti-Christian, left leaning, Canadian mainline media.

"The most onerous attack," says McVety, "was the anti-Christ editorial cartoon in the Globe & Mail on May 28.

"This bigoted message displayed a huge cross, sharpened to a point and piercing the finger of (Conservative leader) Stephen Harper, bleeding in pain and anguish. Other religious leaders, such as Dr. Frank Dimant of B'Nai Brith stated `if that was a Star of David, the outcry would have been severe. This is how the Nazis began to de-legitimize the Jews.'"

Nor is the threat of Canada Christian College losing its charitable status the first faced by McVety.

as Toronto Free Press reported in December 1998, "The soul is about to be cruelly wrest from Christian Education in Ontario by the somewhat surprising quarters of the Mike Harris Progressive Conservative Government and, even as an unsuspecting Christian community prepares to celebrate the Birth of Christ, Ontario's 13 Bible Colleges are under threat of Minister of Education-imposed closure.

"Respected Canada Christian College, with a 25-year history of preparing pastors and missionaries for the work field. has been issued with an immediate "cease and desist all activities in Ontario" order. College President Charles McVety remains under threat of the maximum penalty of one-year's imprisonment if he fails to comply with the ministry's edict.

"The charge against us is preaching the Gospel, McVety told TFP. "To the government, Jesus Christ is not in season."

McVety, who won that round, is now under duress from the federal Liberals, who overwhelmingly endorsed Prime Minister Paul Martin's same-sex marriage legislation in March 2005.

"Today it's religious leaders who are under attack, tomorrow it could be you," says McVety. "We must band together and fight for freedom of religion, for Paul Martin will stop at nothing to eradicate us from democracy."

The ruling Liberals have easily outmaneuvered all moves initiated by the Stephen Harper Conservatives. They excel at the game of politics, but go over the edge when faced by a Christian coalition, armed with only a few websites and the power of prayer.
