abortionist Morgentaler Couchiching Man

Toronto-- If Robert Buckman, President of the Humanist association of Canada--last year granted charitable status by the Government of Canada--addressed the Couchiching Conference in Orillia, Ontario in 2004, how low was it going to be before abortionist Dr. Henry Morgentaler was going to be bestowed the 2005 Couchiching award?

Not long. Morgentaler will be given the award on august 5 during the 74th annual Couchiching Conference. The 2005 Couchiching award for Public Policy Leadership is being conferred upon Morgentaler "for his efforts on behalf of women's rights and reproductive health issues."

"Through the direct and measurable impact that Dr. Morgentaler has had on public policy, he exemplifies the high level of leadership required of award recipients," said a news release from the Couchiching Institute on Public affairs.

In the face of public opposition, Morgentaler received an honorary degree at the University of Western Ontario last month.

although he's better known as Canada's controversial crusading abortionist, Morgentaler was the first president of the Humanist association of Canada, and remains active in promoting humanism.

Canadian pioneering humanists met quarterly under Morgentaler's presidency at his Montreal home. These were back in the days before Morgentaler began doing abortions. When he chose to follow what he describes as his "life's calling", the humanist movement became his first backers and supporters.

The Couchiching Institute on Public affairs is touted as Canada's largest, oldest and most influential public affairs forum.

Speakers at the public affairs forum read like a Who's Who of the latter day left.

"God's back–with a Vengeance" was the title of last year's Couchiching gathering, when everyone but the Christian God was welcome.

The year before that Couchiching brass invited whom some consider to be a devil to the right, actor Ed asner for a panel discussion.

Orillia's cool northern breezes seemed to loosen the actor's tongue. In a panel discussion on national cultural identity, the actor said of fellow americans, "We are pigs."

asner, who had been complaining about the loss of jobs in the Los angeles area, placed the blame for a myriad of society ills on the Left's favourite whipping boy, the evil corporations.

"It's to your credit that you do that for your country," he said. "We don't do a damned thing in our country because we are pigs."

Noting asner's comments at Couchiching, The Left Coast Report's James Hirsen wrote: "It (the conference) purportedly brings people together to discuss vital public policy issues of the day. "This, of course, makes aging left-wing Hollywood actors mandatory participants."
