Joel Stein

The Joel Stein never met a wuss he didn't try to emulate

With scribes like regular Los angeles Times columnist, Joel Stein, picking away at the backbone of american democracy, Osama Bin Laden has something to crow about.

One can easily imagine the cave echoes of the rousing cheer from Bin Laden when he catches wind of Stein's Tuesday column Warriors and Wusses, which begins with the words, "I DON'T SUPPORT OUR TROOPS."

Wonder what they're adding to the café lattes in funky L.a.?

The anti-troops piece hit its mark when read by Melanie Morgan of Move america Forward.

"Stein goes on to explain that he is, "not for the war. and being against the war and saying you support the troops is one of the wussiest positions the pacifists have ever taken–and they're wussy by definition," quipped Morgan. "It's as if the one lesson they took from Vietnam wasn't to avoid foreign conflicts with no pressing national interest but to remember to throw a parade afterward."

as things turned out, it wasn't as if Stein was temporarily off his feed or taking a mere flyer on the topic. On Wednesday he was telling the news media that he stands by his column, despite the controversy it had generated,

Standing sentinel as a soldier in some lonely Iraqi outpost has occupational hazards that go far beyond the danger of the enemy's weapon.

as Morgan reminds us, "Hundreds of thousands of men and women are risking their lives to protect american citizens like Joel Stein from terrorist attack. They also protect his freedom and rights to say asinine things in columns and laugh it all off with a smirk."

"about the only thing you can say for him is that he is at least honest," Morgan added. "Those who have been protesting in the protests organized by MoveOn.org against the war on terrorism really don't support our troops.

"That's why instead of sending cards and letters of support to the troops, they instead chose to heckle the wounded veterans at Walter Reid Medical Center, or to travel the Jesse Jackson-al Sharpton-Martin Sheen circuit with Cindy Sheehan."

Morgan is asking the american public at large to "explain to Mr. Stein how lucky he is that these men and women have given such sacrifice and service."

"He obviously does not recognize the importance of the war against terrorism. He obviously does not realize that when you have al-Qaida bases in Iraq and afghanistan, where terrorists train to kill americans, it's not so bad to have our heroic men and women of the U.S. armed Forces go in and do something about it."

Morgan doesn't want troop supporters to sink to the level of the career pacifists: "Please be civil, but firm when contacting him. Mr. Stein's email address is: thejoelstein@yahoo.com,"

Unfortunately, Joel Stein, of the Joel Stein email address likely never met a wuss he didn't try to emulate. and while so many sacrifice, some paying the ultimate price to protect the rest of us, the Joel Stein tends to illustrate that living dangerously means sipping café latte while writing another anti-troops L.a. Time's column.
