Bill Clinton, Birthdays, Toronto's International Film Festival

Bubba's birthday bash to be celebrated in Toronto

Friday, July 28, 2006

Was going to don my blue dress to make my way down to Bill Clinton's 60th birthday bash at Toronto's Royal York Hotel, on Sept. 9. But the idea of maybe running into the perfectly coiffed John Kerry, or the still basking in Inconvenient Truth al Gore stopped me dead in my tracks.

The last time Bubba was here for a book signing, ladies lined up for hours just to get a peek at Hillary's errant hubby.

Bubba could have staged his 60th anywhere, including at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library, the architectural nightmare that he once jokingly referred to as a "glorified house trailer".

But who could ever expect the birthday boy to pass up the grand Royal York Hotel on the eve of Toronto's International Film Festival with all those Hollywood types in town?

John Kerry, Hillary Clintonaccording to the London Free Press all the Pooh-Bahs will be there for a lavish party "thrown by the moneybags Toronto financial community".

Oscar Night's MC Billy Crystal will be cracking all the jokes. James Taylor and Sara McLachlan will entertain party revelers with some of their songs, and millions of dollars will be donated to Clinton's Foundation to fight aIDS in africa.

Proving that the Dem's Birthday Boy is more popular than any of the Republican's, some 500 people are expected to flock to the event.

"The invitation list is lots of Bay Street and lots of cultured people," said Shelley ambrose, an independent consultant who is helping organize the party." (London Free Press, July 26,2006). "It's kind of like the who's who, and given the level of the table price, we kind of drew it from all walks of life."

(Hey not all the toffs keep offices on Bay Street. Canada Free Press is there and we can attest that not all Toronto's political bigwigs are all that "cultured"). They are, however, politically correct down to the last one.

Tables for the big event are going anywhere from $25,000 to $200,000.

There'll be balloons and party favours galore.

Bill's birthday bash is going to be a star-studded night. Brad Pitt and angelina Jolie, who recently made a $300,000 donation towards children's causes in Namibia, where their daughter was born, are on the guest list,

Paris Hilton who's been hinting of late she's the Marilyn Monroe of her day, will not be singing "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" in a charmingly faltering voice, but organizers are trying to lure Sir Elton John to the motley crew.

No word yet on whether former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev will be in attendance, or if Bubba will be going away miffed if he doesn't show, because he did turn up for the 80th birthday of George Bush Senior.

Gawkers will be sure to be on the lookout for Canadian Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) Belinda Stronach, rumoured to have been Clinton's companion on recent skiing trips. For the unitiated, Blondie Belinda--in this order--dumped significant other then Conservative Party Deputy Leader Peter MacKay, now Canada's deputy prime minister, then crossed the floor to the Paul Martin Liberals as a Liberal MP.

Nowhere in the hoopla of Bubba's 60th birthday party has the name Hillary cropped up.

Perhaps she's too busy checking out the results of the $6,000 her campaign team ponied up for makeup and hairdos.

Or maybe it's because she's a big part of hubby's real birthday on august 19.

But anyone interested can still get a glimpse of Hillary look-alike John Kerry if he shows. according to the New York Post, the two share the same hairdresser, Isabelle Goetz who does wonders with their tresses.
