Child Abductions, Madeleine McCann

Latest warning for parents everywhere

Child abductions, identity theft, home invasions where people are injured or killed against a backdrop of international world terrorism, these are the times in which we all live.

In the wake of the ongoing missing Madeleine McCann story comes from South Africa a worry for parents worldwide.

It's the newest threat of potential child abductions, and in our global village, doesn't count on South Africa as a backdrop.

Chantel Hill, who sends out this Internet message, is a real person. Vicki Langton, a South African mother of two who reports to Canada Free Press (CFP) on the Maddie story, knows of Mrs. Hill through a personal friend.

"Most of you know me as Chantel Thompson, writes Mrs. Hill, who now goes by her married name.

Teddy Bear "This morning 07.08.07 my domestic worker came to me and told me that a black woman gave her a call towards the end of July 2007 and offered her R20000.00 for one of my children.

"My maid at first did not tell me because she thought that the call was a joke and ignored it. We recently moved to a new house about two weeks ago. She then realized that the call was not a joke after she received a second call this past weekend, Saturday 04.08.07 and the same black woman had asked her where we have moved, because she came to the old house last week and we no longer lived there!"

In other words this woman knew exactly what time Chantel Hill and her husband leave for work everyday, what time their children come home from school. The mysterious caller also knew who was looking after the Hill children and what the maid's cell number was.

"This black woman is apparently working for a white man who is paying money for the children," Mrs. Hill wrote in her letter of warning. "As a mother of two this really upsets me to know that my children are not even safe in their own home.

"I have called the police for assistance, but until a document is open there is not much they can do! (And a document does not go very far)."

The worst part of Mrs. Hill's nightmare is that she ignored an email doing the rounds six months ago, writing it off as a hoax: "The worst part is that about 5 or 6 months ago, there was an email going around about people offering the domestic workers money for children they took and I honestly did not think that this would happen to me!"

"I am very afraid for my children, so please send this to as many people as possible so that we can Protect Our Children."

There is no doubt that we live in a world where children are abducted every minute of every day, in shopping malls, from their backyards, on their way to and from school, and even, God help us, from their own bedrooms.

There can also be no doubt that trafficking in humans is now the world's third largest 'industry', second only to gun and drug trafficking.

Most of all, there is no doubt that every parent living the hell on earth in the wake of a missing child never thought it would happen to them.

Keeping children safe from predators requires perpetual vigilance, among other things.

People everywhere are being asked to take Chantel Hill's message and spread it across the Worldwide Internet.
