Toasting the Death of the Pope

Brussels mayor bans Stop the Islamicisation of Europe demo but welcomes anti-American United for Truth rally

Brussels Mayor Freddy Thielemans, who toasted the death of Pope John Paul II with the call, "Champagne for everyone!" has banned the Stop the Islamicisation of Europe (SIOE) demonstration, planned for September 11, but authorized the anti-American United for Truth (UFT) rally for September 9.

The SIOE protest was to take place in front of the august and new age European parliament buildings.

Mayor Thielemans, biggest appeaser since Neville Chamberlain, is worried that the SIOE demonstration will upset the large immigrant population of Brussels. More than half of the inhabitants of the Brussels region are of foreign origin, many of them from Morocco.

According to the mayor, there is a real danger of violence between demonstrators and Muslims living in the neighbourhood.

As some would put it, the Muslims might not tolerate native Europeans protesting against their continent becoming "Eurabia".

Brussels' `Fast Freddy" is, among other things, an unabashed atheist, who hates Christians.

As Paul Belien, of Brussels Journal reminds us, it was Thielemans who ordered champagne for all upon hearing about the death of Pope John Paul II.

"On April 2, 2005 the Brussels mayor was attending an official cocktail party with the Mayor of Angoul me (France), when the news of the death of Pope John Paul II reached him. On hearing the news he ordered, "Champagne for everyone!" His French colleague walked out in disgust." (Brussels Journal, Aug. 14, 2007).

While Thielemans seems to be ultra sensitive towards some constituents, he shows no restraint when it comes to insulting Catholics. The socialist mayor once refused to ban a play by a Moroccan-born author, which was advertised countrywide on posters portraying the Virgin Mary with bare breasts.

Freddy's boorish and loutish behaviour are worn as proudly as his mayor's Chain of Office.

As far as the SIOE protest is concerned, this is Thieleman's edict: My mind is made up. And my decision is final: it will not take place.

"First and foremost the organizers have chosen the symbolic date of 9/11. The intention is to (conflate (sic)) the terrorist activities of Muslim extremists on the one hand and Islam as a religion and all Muslims on the other hand."

While SIOE protesters can expect to face large numbers of territorial riot police if they turn out on Sept. 11, UFT has the blessings of Brussels authorities for their September 9 rally.

The group will march unimpeded from the North Station to the South (Midi) Station in protest against "George Bush's involvement" with the 9/11 terror attacks in New York and on the Pentagon.

On its website UFT (www.virb.com) writes:

"Recently the French Minister for Housing and the City Mme. Christine Boutine expressed her doubts about the official 9/11 report. Before, Michael Meacher, secretary of state in Britain and Andreas Von Bulow, ex Minister from Germany, stated clearly that 9/11 and the war on terror are orchestrated by the Bush administration. Prof. David Ray Griffin held on September 14th, 2006 a lecture ("Should the truth be revealed or concealed") in Copenhagen. In this lecture he asked for a European investigation to the facts of September 11, 2001. To make this demand stronger, the United for Truth organization in Belgium, is organizing a European protest rally through Brussels, on Sunday, September 9th, 2007. (…) The United for Truth organization consists of members of various truth, peace and human rights movements in Europe.

"The 9/9 United for Truth rally will be the first major protest in Europe demanding a serious change and challenge to all politicians in Europe. The protesters…agree the 9/11 attacks and other terrorist acts, no matter if they were carried out by some so-called Afghan cavemen or by the governments themselves, inflicted the current policy of fear…The protesters want to show their solidarity with the American people, who are also asking the same questions and demanding the same answers for years to their government."

In New York, the 22nd Annual Muslim Day Parade is also to take place on September 9.

"The event is expected to draw thousands of Muslim extremists from the surrounding tri-state area, since past parades have included accused death squad leader, Ashrafuzzaman Khan, unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, Siraj Wahhaj and Dhabah Almontaser the woman that was just last week forced to resign as principal designate of the embattled Khalil Gibran International Academy because she defended the selling of t-shirts calling for an intifada in New York." (PipelineNews.org, Aug. 20, 2007).

In contemporary politics, mayors like Freddy Thielemans preside over the "whine cellar" of politics: civic government. Mayors run city halls that in the past, declared their cities nuclear weapons-free zone and in the present promote global warming carbon credits.

According to anti-war activist Ramsey Clark, city politicians are leading the Impeach George Bush movement. "We salute the scores of City Councils across the country which have passed Impeachment Resolutions. We must enlist their support in organizing impeachment activities," Clark said in a recent press release promoting the anti-war, September 15 march on Washington, D.C.
