Pet snatching, Toronto, Chihuahua

Tinkerbell coming home is the only happy ending to 3-year-old's favourite fairytale

Update: Tinkerbell found!

Posters of lost pets can be found on the lampposts of every major city. When the same posters turn up in small towns, they're somehow not as sad. It's much easier to trace a pet in a small town where everyone seems to know each other.

`Tinkerbell' is a tiny Chihuahua. Tinkerbell's favourite person is tiny, three-year-old Deanna Muir.

Tiny Tinkerbell is out there somewhere in the metropolis known as Toronto, Ont. Tracing Tinkerbell in a city the size of Toronto is a big job.

Tinkerbell But no job can be too big when you hear the words of the brokenhearted Deanna. "How come Tinkerbell doesn't come back," the toddler quizzed her uncle Darcy yesterday. (Aug. 21, 2007). "She doesn't love me?"

It's been nearly a week since someone scooped Tinkerbell from the family's west-end porch. A week is a long enough time for a dog-grieving adult. To a three-year-old, whose Mom now finds difficult to put down at bedtime, it's an eternity.

Every inch of her tail-wagging love, Tinkerbell is one year younger than Deanna. Black and white with a touch of brown, the pooch was taken from the gated front porch of the Edmund Ave. home near Jane St. and Weston Rd. this past Thursday afternoon.

Deanna's world came under a dark shadow without the tiny pooch. Kool-Aid just doesn't taste the same without Tinkerbell. Dolls don't wag tails, fairytales don't have the same happy endings and no explanation can heal the broken heart of a three-year-old longing for the return of her dog.

The family has offered a reward for Tinkerbell's return. The kindness of strangers and dog lovers has topped up the reward to $3,100.

People who have heard the story of Tinkerbell are looking and trying their best.

If you know someone who has Tinkerbell or have information leading to the pooch's whereabouts, call Sarah Green, Sun Media, 416-947-2222.

Deanna and Tinkerbell belong in the same place: Together.
