Council on Foreign Relations

One World Conspiracy or New World Think Tank?

By J.B. Williams

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

Since the U.S. Federal government has become increasingly independent minded, often openly acting directly at odds with the will of the people they are sworn to represent, American voters are becoming increasingly interested in finding out exactly who their government is taking orders from, since it clearly isn't them.

Conspiracy theorists from far left political ideologies to far right and all ideologies in between have developed numerous theories as to what international powers our government might be taking orders from and why. Among them, the (www.cfr.org/) Council on Foreign Relations (1), the Rockefeller's (www.trilateral.org/) Trilateral Commission (2), the Bilderberg Group, (www.rhodesscholar.org/) Rhodes Scholars and the Illuminati.

[Links for CFR, TC and Rhodes are provided as they are links to these organizations official sites. No links are provided for the others as no official sites exist for these organizations. A web search will result in thousands of sites which speculate on these organizations. The hard facts are much harder to come by however.]

The problem with conspiracy theories in general is that the people who come up with these theories are often crackpots with little or no credibility whatsoever. Real conspiracies have existed throughout history. So the basic notion that they could exist now is not hard to swallow. However, it is all but impossible to separate real conspiracy from crackpot theory.

Those involved in real conspiracies work hard to conceal their agendas in innocuous sounding and looking enterprises. Those seeking to pull the lid off of such enterprises are often driven by political agendas of their own. Combined, the subject becomes more and more confusing and clouded with every attempt to unravel the enigma.

Today, most American theorists seem focused on the Council on Foreign Relations as the central organization with some loose public connections to the other conspiracy organizations and a public presence which is openly connected to the U.S. Federal government, in an alleged information gathering and advisory capacity, by its own definition, a governmental policy think tank.

There is no question as to how much influence CFR has on members of the U.S. Federal government. Federal policy making can indeed be tracked and aligned with advice coming out of CFR. Whether CFR is nothing more than a non-partisan think tank, as it describes itself, or a leftist One World Order shadow government as described by conspiracy theorists, is the open question on the table.

Some conspiracy theorists assert that CFR is a socialist international globalist movement and there is some evidence to support that assertion. Others assert that CFR is an international corporate good-ole-boys capitalist club, and there is evidence to support this idea too. Still others assert that CFR is a One World Order under UN rule and global socialism, while others claim it is an imperialist military complex bent on American world domination and there is of course evidence to support these notions as well. I'm not sure one needs to look beyond the official Board of Directors list to discern the general agenda of CFR.

The Board of Directors list reads like a who's who of all the above, corporate interests as well as international socialist interests, hawkish military complex interests as well as dovish global One World ideologies. Clearly, much of this list represents a stronghold in academia and the news media, and it is also a list of America's most elite leadership models from a very broad spectrum of political ideologies.

Those who claim CFR is a leftist One World Order global agenda driven organization can find evidence to support that claim. But those who claim it is a corporate run imperialist military industrial complex driven by a post WWII New World Order agenda will find the evidence they need to support their claim as well. So, what is CFR?

Part of the confusion is based on the fact that both ideologies are represented at CFR. There is a great tendency to combine these two ideologies as though they are one in the same and on this basis, make the claim that anyone who belongs to CFR is therefore a socialist and a globalist. However, further investigation will cause one to ask whether or not this claim is valid by first asking if the two fundamental ideologies are in fact, one in the same?

New World Order vs. One World Order

FACT: The New World Order was nothing more than the vision of President George H.W. Bush in the post Cold-War era that found America as the sole remaining super-power after the fall of the Soviet Union. Anyone seeking to understand this agenda must study the vision of a New World based upon one standing super-power and the roll it would play in a post Cold-War world. It is indeed a "global strategy" for how the last remaining super-power would engage the world via diplomatic efforts for purpose of protecting and preserving its own sovereign status.

FACT: The One World Order dates all the way back to the pre- World War European Illuminati era and it is instead alleged to be a "Satanic cult-like" idea based upon Marxist notions of a One World society, free from geographic and geopolitical lines of sovereignty, in which the world would cooperate and share resources via a single central international governing body, for the betterment of the entire world community through socialist principles.

FACT: Most people mistakenly lump these two competing ideas together as one in the same today and this is largely due to massive disinformation efforts by the One World Order camp to identify itself as the New World Order camp, causing first and foremost, confusion among free peoples that will result in those people's voting themselves deeper and deeper into tyranny under what is now referred to as Democratic Socialism. Democratic Socialism is nothing more than Socialism which is chosen via Democratic means, free voting via the free election of those who believe in Socialist solutions to common social challenges.

FACT: Though great efforts have been undertaken to lump these two competing global theories into one in the mind of the average voter, nothing could be further from truth. They are in reality, opposing forces and both ideas are in fact represented in CFR today.

The Trilateral Commission – Cecil Rhodes – The Illuminati

These organizations do exist and have for many years now. But unraveling their membership and related agendas are far more difficult than unraveling that of CFR because they are very old, very well protected, very secretive and very well connected in all parts of the world. However, if we stick to the basics, who founded them, what those founders themselves believed in, and what activities can be directly connected to them over the decades; it is not possible to conclude that these organizations are anything but One World Order oriented.

Because some alleged members of CFR are also alleged to be members of some or all of these other organizations, people looking at the surface of CFR will quickly conclude the CFR is only an extension of these organizations. In its infancy, this might have been true. But today, CFR members represent just about every possible foreign policy ideology under the sun, including that of both international leftists and American nationalists.

CFR Member Rolls

Political operatives from all political camps use CFR member lists to accuse their political foes of anti-American "globalist" intentions, interpreted by the average uninformed or ill-informed reader as opposing American sovereignty and security. In many cases, this is true. Not in all cases however.

A web search for a list of CFR members with turn up literally dozens of member lists, all claiming to be accurate, yet no two of them alike.

The fact is, CFR does not disclose who all of its members are. All lists reported to be accurate CFR member lists are in fact inaccurate member lists. In some cases, non-members names have been added to the list for the sole purpose of character assassination by way of association. In other cases, the lists are at best incomplete.

As a result, no public list of CFR members is reliable and even if it were, all CFR members do NOT share the same global views or political agendas. Some are indeed "One Worlders" while others are in fact "New Worlders," the opposite of a One Worlder.

At the end of the day, being a member of CFR by itself means nothing. We must look beyond simple membership or affiliation to discern an individual's beliefs and motives. It's not the equivalent of belonging to the Socialist Party USA. In fact, we must look beyond words and organizational affiliations in general, to discern their beliefs, motives and agendas. We must look at their actions and activities.

Being a Democrat does not make you an American today. Being a Republican does not make you a conservative. There are NO short cuts. We must look at each politician as an individual and judge them on an individual basis, based upon their actions and activities, not the campaign rhetoric or what club they may or may not belong to.

Most politicians belong to a church. Yet most politicians are anything by ethical and moral. If their actions and activities tell us something quite different, then belonging to a church means nothing.

The same is true of membership in CFR…

Crackpot conspiracy theorists will see this column as some form of a conspiracy cover-up. They see every column that challenges their claims as an attempt to cover-up. But I'm not a CFR member, I'm not a "globalist," I'm not running for public office or even promoting any particular politician here. I am as American as apple pie and Chevrolet, as conservative as our nation's founders and although many members of CFR are not, some members are just as American as me, or any other true American patriot.

We must judge actions and activities, not labels based on theories. Leftists are America's enemy within and they can always be found engaged in promoting leftist notions and policies. Whether a member of CFR or not, leftist notions and policies must not be welcomed in America. Not all things CFR are anti-American, but all things leftist are!
