Ann Coulter's new book Demonic is a terrific read

“Democrats are the heirs to the French Revolution, the uprising of the mob. ...It was the Rousseauian idea of a few select individuals exercising the “general will” that gave the world the gulag, the concentration camp, the killing fields, the reeducation camps, and corpse upon corpse without end. ...France was one of the most advanced, sophisticated, important nations in the world…. In the blink of an eye, a great civilization was reduced to rubble, its most valuable citizens dead or living elsewhere. ...How did the nation of Voltaire, Descartes, Pascal, and Molière transform itself into a bloody saturnalia overnight?
This is a question liberals don’t want us to think about.”—Ann Coulter Demonic
Ann Coulter’s new book “Demonic” is a terrific read—with one glaring exception. Overall, I give the book “two enthusiastic thumbs up,” way up. More about the “glaring exception” in a bit.
A unifying thread that runs through Coulter’s book is the concept of Democrats as the party of the mob. She absorbed much of her knowledge on this subject from Gustave Le Bon’s 1896 classic, “The Crowd.” Link
Coulter writes, “Everything changes, but mobs are always the same. ...It is official Democratic policy to appeal to the least-informed, weakest minded members of the public. Their base consists of soccer moms, actresses, felons, MSNBC viewers, aging Red-diaper babies, welfare recipients, heads-up-their-asses billionaires, and government workers—who can never be laid off. ...Although the left in America is widely recognized as hysterical, unreasonable, and clueless, the ‘root cause’ of these traits has generally been neglected.” They are a mob.
Coulter notes that “Liberals are the ‘some of the people’ you can fool all of the time.” Like much of her wit, Coulter’s statement is pointed social commentary doubling as humor. She also notes that “The mob [liberals] demands total chaos in sexual traditions, morals, and decorum—but fascistic uniformity when it comes to opinions.” The mob does not permit dissenting opinion. If you stray from the party line you will be mercilessly and savagely ridiculed and mocked until you contritely return to the fold. The mob does not brook disagreement from within, or without, its ranks.
Coulter observes that “The mob mentality is irresistible to people with a desperate need to be popular, those who are perennially afraid of getting a bloody nose in the playground of life. That is why conservatives can never be a mob….” The liberal herd mentality, so blatantly obvious in phenomena such as their pack attacks on Sarah Palin, for example, is at heart a mob’s need for group approval and approbation. The poor dears are lacking in self-esteem you see (not to be confused with egotism, which they have in spades). Link Link
The core, or heart, of Coulter’s book is (IMHO) Part II: “The Historical Context Of The Liberal,” in which Coulter gives an informative, concise description of the French Revolution, and comparisons with the American Revolution—“the history you’ve never read.” For those who are unaware of the history of the French Revolution (or of the American Revolution for that matter) “Demonic” is worth purchasing, if for no other reason than to become informed about these two watershed movements—so similar, and yet so vastly dissimilar, at the same time. The one (French) a liberal revolution, and the other (American) a conservative revolution.
Coulter writes “To understand liberals, one must understand the French Revolution.” Yet, as she points out, this world shaking event is given short shrift in America’s schools. Why? Because “liberals don’t like to talk about the French Revolution because it is the history of them.” Link
Liberals avoid discussing the French Revolution for the same reason as Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” avoids discussing community organizer extraordinaire, Adolf Hitler—the conclusions are too obvious, bloody, and in-your-face horrific. (Most constitutional conservatives are by this point well aware that the Nazis were/are a Far Left ideology, so I won’t belabor the point. That most of the liberal mob continues to suffer under the delusion that the Nazis were/are right-wing, is the result of life-long brainwashing, and is to be expected given their herd-like weltanschauung). Link
Coulter does an admirable job of describing the French Revolution, so I won’t go into the Great Fear, the September Massacres, the Day of the Daggers, the Reign of Terror, or any of the other bloody atrocities that were to become the leitmotif of all future Far Left revolutions. Suffice it to say that the French Revolution, serving as their template, has inspired the Left’s most gruesome, cruel, and terrifying social engineering fiascos. “We the people” are currently experiencing the end stages (or the beginning stage, if you prefer) of one of their “social experiments” here in the US. May God help us all. Link
“Demonic” is much more than a one trick pony, however. Besides the French and American revolutions, Coulter has a separate section on “The Violent Tendencies of the Liberal,” which includes chapters on the 1960s, the Civil Rights movement, the ongoing destruction of the American judicial system, and the very real violence of the Left, versus the largely mythical violence of the Right. Link
Coulter’s discussion of the Civil Rights movement is especially enlightening to those who only know the left-wing’s revisionist version of history—where the Democrats claim credit “for everything their party had ferociously blocked since the Civil War.” Of particular note is her explanation for the “overnight” sea-change that the Democratic Party underwent in the early 1960s regarding their long-held opposition to blacks (and why the long Republican support for blacks has been eradicated from public consciousness). Link
In addition, Coulter does a fine job of exposing the arrogant, puerile, self-centered pathology of the liberal mind-set in such chapters as “The Totalitarian Instinct and Sexual Perversity of Liberals.” Speaking of mind-sets, it is not too far “off message” to note that I believe that the liberal mind-set tends toward insanity like a compass needle tends to swing north. Given the blood-drenched history of the Far Left, to advance such a hypothesis is not exactly a daring gambit. Link
Be that as it may, now we come to Coulter’s “glaring exception.” I’m talking about the fact that Coulter disses the “birthers” in her book. Et tu Ann? Say it ain’t so.
Among her numerous legal credentials, Coulter is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, clerked for a Circuit Judge, and has worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee. One assumes that she is familiar with the US Constitution, and in particular, Article I Section II (“No person except a natural born Citizen…shall be eligible to the Office of President….”). Link
The “birthers” (whom I call “verifiers,” as they seek to verify Obama’s legitimacy to be POTUS) are concerned with Obama’s qualifications to be President. Their focus is mainly (but not exclusively) concerned with finding out the truth surrounding Obama’s birth—where it was, and who his parents were. These are not flaky, off-the-wall issues, but profoundly significant matters of national (not to mention international) importance, that demand answers (especially given Obama’s shady background—what little we know of it). Link
There can be no doubt that if there is indeed a legitimate Hawaiian birth certificate for Obama (as opposed to a facsimile), then the powers that be are preventing a forensic examination of it at all costs. Why they are going to such lengths to hide it (if indeed it exists), is a legitimate question to ask. It is our duty as patriotic Americans to ask it. Link
Yet Coulter writes “Conservatives heard Obama wasn’t born in Hawaii, but then found out there were newspaper announcements of his birth and dropped it—except for the remaining two hundred Americans who still believe he was born in Kenya.” Link
Coulter often uses irony to great and humorous effect, but in this case comparing the millions of Americans justly alarmed over Obama’s history, to a handful of delusional loons, is neither ironic nor humorous—it is merely insulting and lame. Link Link
Coulter’s book is largely a wonderfully informative read, so it strikes me as exceedingly peculiar that someone so passionately and bravely conservative as she is, would be so willfully blind to the importance of what the verifiers are concerned with—which is the defense of the US Constitution, and the existence of America as a free republic under the rule of law. The reasons for her attitude run the gamut from Beltway Bubble myopia, to heeding “warnings from above.” Your guess is as good as mine. Link
Let me reiterate that it is a mistake to have tunnel-vision regarding the Obama birth certificate. As important as the subject may be, it is only one of many threads that throw Obama’s legitimacy to be POTUS into question. Threads such as Obama’s “Uncle Frank”—the communist Frank Marshall Davis; threads such as Obama’s Social Security number, his Selective Service document, his connections to the Communist Party USA and domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, and on and on ad nauseum. Link Link
“We the people” are supposed to be okay with it all? We are supposed to shut up and not rock the boat? We are supposed to stand idly by while America and Western civilization sink ever more quickly into cultural chaos and economic ruination? We are supposed to ignore the fact that our President is a cipher, with records sealed under lock and key? We are supposed to be on board with all that? I think not. (It is good to keep in mind that just as Obama’s eligibility to be POTUS goes beyond his birth certificate, the international movement for globalism extends far beyond Obama). Link Link
I’ll rein myself in at this point, as I could go on at some length regarding this issue, but my article is about Coulter’s book, and as I say, it is for the most part (99.9%) an excellent book, and well worth the read. It only seems fair to give Coulter the last word, so to speak. Her description below is of the mob; it is also a description of the Democratic Party, and liberals in general. Being globalists, they are ipso facto American traitors—our government is thoroughly infested with such treasonous “elites.” Link
“The mob will never support defending America, only those who seek to undermine it. The mob will never side with those who seek to protect human life, only those who seek to destroy it. The mob will never support the creation of wealth, only those who seek to punish it. The mob will never defend traditional morality, only those who seek to subvert it. And if you oppose the mob, it will come after you like a pack of ravenous hyenas. There is no coherence to the Left’s position, except its will to destroy. ...The only common thread is destruction.” Link
