There's nothing Democrats want more
It’s a set-up, y’all: Obama power abuses are nothing but impeachment bait

If you find it astonishing that Barack Obama abuses his power with such impunity, and absolutely no fear of consequences for doing so, let me explain his gambit:
Whether he’s refusing to enforce immigration laws, or doing an end-run around the Senate with a climate treaty, or continuing to use the IRS to go after political opponents, or unilaterally changing ObamaCare according to his whim (or his political interest, which is probably more like it), Obama figures that Republicans have only two options available to counter him:
1. They can sue him, which they’ve done on a limited basis (mainly related to ObamaCare), but Obama probably figures he will be out of office by the time the lawsuit winds its way through the court system. So as long as he’s president, they’re helpless to stop him.
Or . . .
2. They can initiate impeachment proceedings. And this is what the Democrats want. Impeachment would instantly become the biggest news story in the country, driving off the front pages the sputtering economy, the chaos going on overseas, the continued problems with ObamaCare, the problems with immigration . . . all of it would disappear while impeachment begins to dominate the headlines. And of course, Obama figures he can count on the media to spin the story so it is not about his power abuses, but rather about the the Republicans’ “overreach” in trying to impeach him.
For Democrats, “Obama-hating Republicans go too far!” is a much more appealing headline than “Inept Obama can’t lead government to save his life”. So you’re darn right they want impeachment, which is why they can’t seem to stop talking about it.
By the way, there is a third option for House Republicans who would like to check the power of the president. They could refuse to fund his many unconstitutional abuses of his power. But if they do that, Harry Reid will lead Senate Democrats in bringing about a government shutdown for which the political class and the media will blame the Republicans.
So basically, the Republicans can sit back and let Obama do whatever he wants, or try to stop him and bring about a gigantic meltdown on the part of the chattering classes. Power isn’t worth much if you’re afraid to use it, huh?
But they shoudn’t fall for Obama’s impeachment bait. There are much better ways to put a check on the president’s power, and they start with the political courage necessary to actually try them.
