It is embarrassing that Canada has become more pacifist than Obama, the Democrats, Germany, the UK and France. At least those countries occasionally understand their first priority is to keep their homelands safe
Obama's Oval Office address--Canadians should be embarrassed
On Sunday night, Barack Obama addressed the American people and the world from the Oval Office. In his seven years in office it is only the third time he has formally spoken from his office, a tradition American presidents have used since Harry Truman's days as president.
Desperate to bolster his credibility for his reluctance to describe the San Bernardino shootings as a terrorist act in the face of the obvious evidence, Obama felt the need to suddenly speak on the evils of ISIS.
The purpose of the speech was to attempt to convince people he is serious about terrorism and defeating the Islamic State. Not surprisingly, much of his speech was about gun control and the fact there will not be American boots on the ground in Syria and Iraq. And he spent a relative large amount of time in his 13-minute speech to convince listeners the Islamic State has absolutely nothing to do with Islam. For the most part it was a typical B. Hussein speech.
But there was a portion of his address that should have Canadians embarrassed if not downright ashamed of their current government.
The president said in part, "In Iraq and Syria air strikes are taking out ISIL leaders, heavy weapons, oil tankers, infrastructure. Since attacks in Paris our closest allies including France, Germany and the United Kingdom, have ramped up their contributions to our military campaign which will help us accelerate our effort to destroy ISIL".
There was no mention of Canada, traditionally a strong ally of the United States, and Obama cannot certainly  be criticized for that. In October 2014 Liberal leader and now Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a joke about the airstrikes against ISIL that showed how juvenile he really is. Trudeau accused then-prime minister Stephen Harper of "trying to whip out our CF-18s and show how big they are."
It is one thing for the socialist NDP to oppose the bombing mission due to their pacifist principles; it is quite another to think bombing and killing people is something to make a childish sex joke about.
And this was not Junior's first foreign affairs joke. When asked about Russia's involvement in the Ukraine in 2014, Trudeau said it was because the Russian president was upset Russia's men's Olympic team did not win any medals at Sochi.
Shortly after Trudeau and the Liberals won the October 19 election, in a congratulatory phone call from Obama, Trudeau told him Canada will be withdrawing from participating in these bombing raids. Trudeau's rationale; Canada's military are better at other things such as providing humanitarian relief and acting as social workers in camps filled with refugees from Syria. A total insult to the men and women in Canada's armed forces.
Although after the terrorist attacks in Paris, there were rumours Canada would continue these missions but Trudeau, more interested in climate change and taking selfies than he was with defeating the Islamic State said nothing. Unlike others, Paris made no difference to him.
After Paris the French, often referred to as cheese-eating surrender monkeys, began serious bombing raids over ISIS-held territory. Germany and the United Kingdom, two countries that have become seriously Islamicized in recent years also began heavy bombing missions. But Canada:nothing.
Although Canada has not participated in all US wars such as Vietnam and the 2003 Iraq War, we were strong allies during World War I, World War II and Korea. Canadians have always participated in wars where our way of life was threatened. Not anymore apparently.
Trudeau's actions are an insult to all those who have risked their lives and sometimes made the ultimate sacrifice to keep Canada safe. Under Trudeau's leadership, the Liberal Party of Canada is not the same Liberal Party it was in 2001 when Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chrétien committed troops to Afghanistan in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.
Although Trudeau supporters are happy their boy in concentrating on the real issues such as climate change and bringing in as many Syrian refugees as possible,  a lot of Canadians understand the real threat the Islamic State poses to Canada and the West.
