Business Politicians Versus Reform Politicians

Robert A. Heinlein, in his book, 'Time Enough For Love’, during an explanation about the many things done in the long life of the main character, wrote, "Reform politicians not only tend to be dishonest but stupidly dishonest - whereas the business politician is honest... I don't mean that the business politicians won't steal; stealing is his business.

A successful business politician guards his reputation for sticking by his commitments

But all politicians are non-productive. The only commodity any politician has to offer is jawbone. His personal integrity - meaning, if he gives his word can you rely on it? A successful business politician knows this and guards his reputation for sticking by his commitments - because he wants to stay in business - go on stealing, that is - not only this week but next year and years after that. So if he's smart enough to be successful at this very exacting trade, he can have the morals of a snapping turtle, but he performs in such a way as not to jeopardize the only thing he has to sell, his reputation for keeping promises. "But a reform politician has no such lodestone. His devotion is to the welfare of all the people - an abstraction of very high order and therefore capable of endless definitions. If indeed it can be defined in meaningful terms. In consequence your utterly sincere and incorruptible reform politician is not from personal dishonesty, as he sincerely regrets the necessity and will tell you so - but from unswerving devotion to his ideal. All it takes to get him to break his word is for someone to get his ear and convince him that it is necessary for the greater good of all peepul [sic]... After he gets hardened to this, he's capable of cheating at solitaire. Fortunately he rarely stays in office long - except during the decay and fall of a culture."

Reform Politicians: Want immigration reform, tax reform, economic reform, judicial reform, social reform

Heinlein by no means was considered a conservative. That said, he did take a realistic view of politics, and it emerged, often, in his writing. As I traversed the long and arduous journey in my evolution towards supporting Donald Trump, my original explanation for my willingness to vote for the businessman-turned-politician was that he's not Hillary. When pressed for more of an explanation as to why Trump is appealing at all, I admitted that while I was not sure that Donald Trump was 100% in favor of everything he said, the fact that his product, namely "him" and his name, was on the line, and I believe that will keep him honest. As a businessman, his greatest promotional tool is himself, so he will be careful not to tarnish his repute. His reputation is on the line, and he, as President of the United States, will be centered around trying to keep as many promises as he can in order to protect his good name. Will he be perfect? No. But he will sure as hell try to be. When it comes to the Democrats, the "reform politician" definition by Heinlein fits them perfectly. Interestingly enough, the word "reform" is among their favorites. They want immigration reform, tax reform, economic reform, judicial reform, social reform, and just about every other reform you can think of. Of course, they don't mean "reform" as much as they mean "socialize." The thing is, We the People, or at least the informed ones, see through their garbage. Yet, the Democrats, after their defeat in 2016, are doubling down on what caused them to lose in the first place. The idiotic recount effort, their Alinsky-style claims of white supremacy and racism in regards to the GOP (a strategy I believe follows the 1972 example Alinsky used through Tulane University students - 1 (see below for explanation), and pushing for Muslim Keith Ellison to be the DNC Chair, is exactly the kind of things that brought angry voters out to put Trump into the White House. Why are they doubling down? They do not understand why they lost, first of all; secondly, they are reform politicians. The agenda, their devotion to collectivism, has them blinded to the truth.

Democrats believe that the inevitability of utopianism-socialism-communism-statism-progressivism-liberalism-collectivism

"Progressive" ideals are all that matters to them. Their agenda is more important than what is best for the country or their party. Leftism, to them, transcends everything, and the Democrats believe that the inevitability of utopianism-socialism-communism-statism-progressivism-liberalism-collectivism is assured. All they know is that they must do whatever it takes to fulfill what they believe to be the ultimate common good, and the unavoidable outcome of the evolution of humanity. The problem is, after the 2016 defeat that has shocked the establishment to the core, the leftists are now a wild animal that feels trapped and cornered. It is times like this that the party of good intentions will be willing to force those ideals upon America by any means - including through authoritarian strategies. One needs only to look to California to recognize the trend. Therefore, while we can be happy celebrating the victory, it is now that the storm will become most fierce. We must batten down the hatches, and brace for an all-out political war.
  1. From Sanford D. Horwitt's Let Them Call Me Rebel (which is a biography of Saul Alinsky, the famed community organizer who heavily influenced both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton: "...in the spring of 1972, at Tulane University...students asked Alinsky to help plan a protest of a scheduled speech by George H. W. Bush, then U.S. representative to the United Nations - a speech likely to include a defense of the Nixon administration's Vietnam War policies. The students told Alinsky they were thinking about picketing or disrupting Bush's address. That's the wrong approach, he rejoined, not very creative - and besides causing a disruption might get them thrown out of school. He told them, instead, to go to hear the speech dressed as members of the Ku Klux Klan, and whenever Bush said something in defense of the Vietnam War, they should cheer and wave placards reading, ‘The KKK supports Bush.' And that is what they did, with very successful, attention-getting results.")
