Conservatives who are dumping on Obama and Trudeau for not attributing the Orlando terrorist attack to radical Islam, should take a real close look at their leaders. All of them

Canadian politicians’ reactions to Orlando terrorist attack

Political leaders in Canada naturally reacted to the terrorist attack at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando that so far resulted in 50 dead and 53 injured. While Liberal pols reacted as expected, those political leaders who purport to be conservative also failed to mention the attack was carried out by a radical Islamist. If Donald Trump has any concerns about Canadian conservative leaders trying to emulate him, he need not worry. One of the first off the mark was Liberal MP Ralph Goodale, the minister of public safety. He said he was “shocked” by what happened. Many Canadians who are not fans of the Liberal Party took to social media to express their displeasure at the fact the person responsible for protecting Canadians from terrorist attacks would find a terrorist attack to be shocking.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s response was, as expected, similar to that of the man he worships, B. Hussein O. Trudeau called it an act of terror but did dare not say it was an act of Islamic terrorism. He was not only “shocked” but “shocked and saddened” by what happened. By adding the word “saddened” we now know why he’s the Liberal leader and not Goodale. Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne also said she was “shocked and saddened” by the Orlando killings. It is completely understandable that the most experienced Orlando police officers who were at the scene of the carnage would be “shocked.” But for those in law enforcement or in political positions where they are tasked with keeping their citizens safe to say they are “shocked” simply by hearing what happened is, well, shocking. Like many others, they refuse to admit that there is an ongoing threat from radical Islamic terrorism. If anyone was expecting politicians who at least self-identify as conservatives to say anything different they were in for a disappointment. Rona Ambrose, interim leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, did mention it was an act of terrorism. Just like Obama did. Just like Trudeau did. But she too also failed to mention Islamic terrorism as being behind the Orlando attack. At least Ambrose didn’t say she was “shocked.” She said she was “horrified". The woman should get a gold star for originality. Is there a difference between “shocked” and “horrified?” Well, as a famous American philosopher once said, it depends upon what “is” is.

It is somewhat amazing that conservatives are dumping on Trudeau and Obama while giving Ambrose a free pass for essentially saying the same thing. Even though Ambrose is only a temporary leader, it does not bode well she is merely mimicking the left in her reaction to a major terrorist attack. And then there is Patrick Brown, leader of the PC Party of Ontario. Brown’s major focus is resting up so he can march in the Toronto Gay Pride parade and dreaming of becoming premier so he can impose a carbon tax. Brown tweeted his thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families but didn’t even refer to what happened as terrorism. He has shown when it comes to defining what happened as terrorism, he’s no Obama. And the winner is…. Toronto mayor John Tory. Although it is almost laughable to describe Tory as a conservative, he was a PC most of his life and was, for a brief time in the 2000s, leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. Tory did not only not use the “t” word in his statement but thinks that what happened in Orlando was only an attack on the LGBT community. While others mentioned the victims were gays and lesbians, Tory went on and on and on about the community. A simple conclusion from a simple man. The real problem is fundamental Islam, not simply a hatred of the LGBT community. Tory, unlike the others, is using the Orlando killings in order to suck up to gays and lesbians. And sucking up to special interest groups is what he does best.

But Tory didn’t stop there. He blamed U.S. lawmakers for resisting gun regulations that would prevent mass shootings. The real cause of the mass killings was the failure to prevent law abiding citizens from owning guns. With this statement, Tory joins the ranks of the kooks who are blaming Christians and Donald Trump for the Orlando shootings. Conservatives who are dumping on Obama and Trudeau for not attributing the Orlando terrorist attack to radical Islam, should take a real close look at their leaders. All of them. As the saying goes, Liberals, Tories, same old story.
