Democrat Sen. Bob Casey: Single-Payer bill may be coming in a couple of weeks

It's hard to overstate how badly the GOP has botched things when it comes to health care. They spent 6 years of promising that they'd repeal ObamaCare if only they "had the House, the Senate, and the White House," so voters gave them all three. Unfortunately, it's turned out that - for a large percentage of them - repeal was never really a goal. It was a talking point, and a bit of political theater, designed to keep them in their cushy jobs. This week's disastrous, spineless, betrayal is a spectacular gift for Democrats. Not only does it damage Republican re-election efforts, it shows Democrats that their opponents are empty-suited blowhards, and gives the left a much-needed shot in the arm by creating a major 2018 campaign issue.
You can practically see the ads now. "Give us back control, and we'll make sure you never have to pay another insurance bill." If you think that sounds far-fetched, you're wrong. In fact, it's probably going to start in the next couple of weeks. According to Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) a single payer bill could be coming as soon as two weeks from now. Asked by MSNBC's Katy Tur to go on the record with his general opinion of single-payer healthcare, Casey rambled. So, Tur pressed. "Yes or no on single payer?" Casey replied:
"There is no bill that speaks to that. There may be a bill in the next couple weeks and we will debate that. ...I'm sure there will be a bill on that - and when that bill is introduced we will debate it. But the best thing we can do in both parties right now is to take repeal off of the table, don't decimate Medicaid, and make sure we're focused on the real problems in health care, those parts of our health care system, those parts of the exchanges in those communities where costs are too high."

We're going to produce a ridiculous, unworkable, single-payer bill that we know will go down in flames

In other words: "We're going to produce a ridiculous, unworkable, single-payer bill that we know will go down in flames. Then, when its grotesque overreach dooms it to legislative failure, we'll use it as a wedge issue in the next two elections. We tried to give you blah, blah, blah, and they wouldn't let us!" Honestly, it's a smart play. You can thank the GOP for this. By shirking their duty - by turning their backs on years of promises and previous votes - they've opened the floodgates for the left. Remember, Dems view healthcare not as an issue unto itself, but a means of implementing massive taxation, gun control, and a whole swath of social engineering initiatives. Republicans, you had one job. Thus far, you've failed in spectacular fashion. Get. It. Done.
