When nearly 70% of Americans want illegal immigration stopped, you have to wonder just how disconnected the president and the GOP establishment really is to the will of the American people!

Donald Trump: The Twinkie Connection!

What makes America unique is her passion for individual freedom—a passion that has been dampened by the last 7 years of Hope and Change. If you hope for a better economy, it really changed to the worse. If you hoped for better race relations, they changed for the worse. If you hoped for a more stable Middle East, well, that has become so FUBAR that only God can change it for the better. So what does this all have to do with Trump and Twinkies? If you groaned you way through last night’s mercifully final Obama SOTU address, you were sure to catch the digs from the president directed at Trump: The president said: “We need to reject any politics that targets people because of race or religion. This isn’t a matter of political correctness.”
Trump has taken aim at PC like none other before him. His “Make America Great Again” slogan resonates with a majority that see the debacle that has been the last 7 years of an imperial presidency. The economy has been devastated, and America’s influence in the world shattered. This is not up for debate—for just before his speech, Iran took 10 sailors hostage—a move which gave Obama’s Iran policy the middle finger. Obama’s ‘look what I did for America’ talk was full of platitudes, and full of bovine excrement. Trump and other GOP candidates have nailed it at every point—except the problem of immigration. “It’s easier to be cynical,” Obama said, “to accept that change isn’t possible, and politics is hopeless, and to believe that our voices and actions don’t matter." But shortly after the address, Trump tweeted: "The State of the Union speech was one of the most boring, rambling and non-substantive I have heard in a long time." Next up was Gov. Nikki Haley who, even though she has been a constant critic of Obama’s record, and seen by some as a potential Republican vice presidential choice in 2016-- also slammed Trump’s message without naming him.

Each time Trump declares he’s going to do the opposite of what the president has bungled over the past 7 years, he goes up in the polls

“Some people think that you have to be the loudest voice in the room to make a difference,” Haley said. “That is just not true. Often, the best thing we can do is turn down the volume. When the sound is quieter, you can actually hear what someone else is saying. And that can make a world of difference.” So what does this have to do with Twinkies? Simple: Americans are in love with rugged individualism—not so with socialism and the nanny government state. When we lose something near and dear to us, we want it all the more. When we might lose a cherished inalienable right—and someone attempts to take it away—all hell breaks loose. When Hostess Twinkies stopped production the world ended! You could go on Ebay and find a case selling for $50. People were distraught, angry, literally weeping. When Obama said he was coming after gun violence with his Executive Orders, gun sales went ballistic. Some Americans who never gave much thought to buying a gun suddenly went out to load up—take concealed carry courses---and fill up the practice ranges. The very thought of such a right being taken away emboldened us to stock up. When illegals invade America and among the huddled masses are ISIS terrorist infiltrating the USA, people aren’t in the mood to see their security taken away by bureaucrats ignoring laws and then placing illegals in communities without any consent. So when someone tells you he’s ‘gonna build a wall’, and tells you we should stop all Muslim immigration, America responds positively. Imagine if Trump had bought the rights to Twinkies and kept production going? Americans would have been overjoyed. Each time Trump declares he’s going to do the opposite of what the president has bungled over the past 7 years, he goes up in the polls. Iran nuclear deal? Worst deal ever! He’d make a better deal. Trade deals: Horrible! Economy: Disastrous! He’d bring jobs and manufacturing back. But now this is where Americans really respond to Trump: When an impotent president leads from behind and attacks Trump in a SOTU speech, Trumps ratings will go up. Americans understand Obama’s reason for attacking Trump’s policies. Then when a sitting GOP governor goes after Trump, it proves that the establishment is also in the bag for illegal immigration (translated: loss of more American jobs; more freebies for those who can’t fend for themselves; more free access to terrorists; more drain on the budget; loss of American values by those who refuse to assimilate into the American culture). Trumps ratings will rise again. Like Twinkies, take away something and we are bereft. As for American exceptionalism, do things to erode that and we are mad as hell. That desire to hold onto what made America great is simply standing against every effort to erode our rights and values. When nearly 70% of Americans want illegal immigration stopped, you have to wonder just how disconnected the president and the GOP establishment really is to the will of the American people! Incidentally, I have five cases of Twinkies which were made to last for decades—and while I’m not a ‘prepper’, I am saving these for survival food.
