Don’t eat the apple: A story for our times

Eve stood in the shade of the apple tree and enjoyed the cool breeze as it played against her skin. She ran her finger along the plump red fruit. Her mouth watered at the thought of its promised juiciness. Everything in the garden pleased her. This should too, but she also knew of the prohibition of eating anything from this tree.
Suddenly, a face appeared in the crook of the tree and greeted her. “Hello, Eve. Lovely day, isn’t it?” She backed away and answered politely, “Yes, every day in the garden is lovely.” His hand reached up to touch the fruit. “And this looks delicious, doesn’t it?” Eve nodded. “But God has forbidden us to eat from that tree. He said if we did, we’d die.”

Lucifer threw back his head and laughed. “And you believe that?” He slithered through the crook and drew nearer the woman. “The truth is He knows that if you eat this fruit, you’ll be like Him. You’ll know everything He knows. You’ll have everything he has—all the power and knowledge. He just doesn’t want any competition. Face it, Eve. You deserve all He has. You deserve to be like Him. Think of it. You could be a goddess!” Yes, why shouldn’t she have what He had? Why shouldn’t she be a goddess? With trembling fingers, Eve plucked the apple from the tree and took a bite. The rest, as they say, is history. That temptation from the father of lies continues to this day and carries over to our politics. At its most basic level, Lucifer pitted the creature against the Creator, and birthed class warfare. And today, Barack Obama and his minions continue the same deception. The rhetoric does nothing by fragment our society, but he seems very pleased with himself because it serves his agenda very well. His ideology of making us a socialist nation demands that he disassemble the country piece by piece so that at the appropriate moment, he can rush in with big government and save the day by reconstructing it in his own image. Four years wasn’t quite long enough. He needs four more. Never mind that in the last four years of carefully following his plan, it not only failed, but failed dismally. Never mind that we are a right-of-center country with a people who cherish freedom. Never mind that he sees the Constitution as an obstacle to be swept aside in favor of his vision for this country. With less two months to election day, think long and hard about the vote you will cast in November. If Obama wins re-election, the last four years will seem like the good old days. We will see a president who continues to sidestep the Constitution at every turn; a president who governs by edict instead of through Congress; and a steady and accelerated erosion of liberties. When you cast your vote this November, think carefully. Don’t buy into the deception. You see where that’s gotten us. And please don’t eat the apple.
