Eddie's Edge

Well here it is, my first column back at CFP after a much, much too long hiatus. I am relishing the calm of the pre-dawn morning to be able to collect my thoughts needed to interpret into words my feelings to share. It's October 28th, 2014 and its the day after general municipal elections here in Ontario. Head and shoulders the most highly visible election held yesterday was the highly publicized and anticipated controversial mayor's race here in Toronto. When all the dust settled, it was John Tory, a Liberal posing as a small c conservative, who finally was able to put one in the win column after several unsuccessful stabs at elected office. Tory edged out the tough on taxes, politically incorrect Doug Ford, who stepped into the mayors race last month to replace his ailing brother Rob, the incumbent Mayor who the media love to hate. Rob dropped out of the race to fight an aggressive form of cancer that had attacked his still young 45-year-old body.
The election reflected the dramatic change in the bitterly contested politics of Toronto City Hall, where nothing but potholes and increasing taxes can be taken for granted. Trailing behind very distantly in 3rd place was one time favorite of the downtown inner core Olivia Chow, widow of former NDP leader, the late Jack Layton. A perpetual feeder on the public teat, Ms.Chow has never met a tax dollar that she didn't love to spend, and truth be told the Canadian mint would have had to put on extra shifts in printing all the greenbacks needed to satisfy the well-intentioned but naive professional politician's hunger to spend for her vision of political correctness and social change. My own take of the election is that the voters of Toronto settled for second best in giving Tory a mandate to rule for the next 4 years. Will he be a strong enough leader to battle successfully against the predominantly socialist leanings of the majority Toronto council? I certainly hope so, but I for one have my doubts that he has the will and charisma to win such a battle. A prediction for the future? I foresee a Ford back in the mayor's chair in 2018. With all the hoopla and controversy that followed the Ford family around, people will realize that their tough, respect for the taxpayers style of rule will be sorely missed. Good luck Mr.Tory, now go out and prove me wrong. Best of Luck!

Speaking of Mayor Rob Ford, congratulations go out to his incredibly successful victory for his Ward 2 city council win yesterday, leaving the brutal mayor's race for the less stressful election run for the council seat that he occupied for over a decade until his overwhelming victory in the 2010 mayor's race that left city councillors and mainstream media fuming ever since. Work hard and take care of yourself, Rob. Your family and health have to be your priority now, but i just know that you're going to be leading some incredible battles on city council. Just keep punching Rob, we know who the real champ is!

After last week's horrifying attack by the deranged Muslim convert (will not even mention the cretin's name here) I am so saddened and angry to come to the realization that all these Jihadist organizations are literally busting at the seams in glee over what happened last week in Ottawa. The fact that this non-entity murdered a proud young soldier during his insane attack was not the only damage created. The simple fact that we have been hurt and disillusioned by this cowardly action totally plays into the wants and needs of these Islamic fundamentalists. At no cost to themselves--for the life of the perpetrator is of no value--his actions have caused fear and a loss of innocence to this great land of ours and that is what these sorry human beings most sorely want and need. Mr. Prime Minister, remain strong and vigilant we in Canada can and will easily defeat these enemies of ours and along with our allies in America and abroad will not only triumph but grow and remain as the shining example of freedom and justice throughout the world.

Many of you have been following the health problems that I have encountered over the past several months with the infection and amputation of my lower left leg in July. It's still hard to talk and express myself on this experience, but I wanted to let everyone know that I'm fine. I'm healthy at home, trimmer and training hard with my new prosthetic and so thankful for my wonderful friends and family that have helped me so much in getting over the absolute horror of losing a limb. In the next few weeks, I will write a column on what happened when I can properly articulate the process to you and thank all the dear people that were in my corner for this fight. I owe you all so very much, including my very life. Great to be back guys!! Let's have some fun, kick some butt and knock out the scourge of our modern society, political correctness!
