Election of Obama would be a disaster

Staff, Catholic Insight Tears ran down the cheeks of the Toronto Star’s Bob Hepburn when he pleaded with the newspaper’s readers to start praying for the U.S. presidential election victory of Barack Hussein Obama on November 4 (“A Canadian prayer for Obama,” Oct. 30). It was strange seeing a newspaper as liberal as the Star urging prayer. Hepburn told us that “many Canadians have been praying for Obama.” Well, we are not among them. The election of Obama as president would turn out to be a disaster. On the most important issues of all, the equality and dignity of all human beings, he represents the greatest threat ever, even more so than the notorious Bill Clinton. Obama serves as an idol for ruthless feminists in the world who seek to exterminate our future by exterminating our preborn. Obama has a 100 per cent approval rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America, the U.S.’s leading pro-abortion organization. As the Population Research Institute points out, that rating is based on a record of consistently voting against the unborn. Obama has told Planned Parenthood he regards so-called choice as “a fundamental issue” on which he will not yield. Obama has pledged to immediately sign into law the “Freedom of Choice Act,” which would have the effect of wiping out all laws and restrictions on abortion, including those passed my more than 40 state legislatures. He would also: veto any pro-life laws and amendments that reach his desk; serve with a vice-president, Joseph Biden, who shares his determination to promote abortion on demand without restrictions both at home and throughout the world; devote enormous sums of money to promote the culture of death everywhere; and repeal the Mexico City policy, which has curbed U.S. support and funding for foreign abortions. Not mincing words, Matt Barber, director of cultural affairs with the Liberty Counsel and the Liberty Alliance Action and also the associate dean of the Liberty University School of Law, characterizes Obama as vowing to “provide blood for the bloodthirsty”. “The man you’re considering for the highest office in the land is an abortion extremist among extremists. His own words, actions and policies reveal him as such. Under a president Obama, true freedoms will be trampled, parental rights will be taken and millions of lives will be lost.” His bloodthirstiness is perhaps best illustrated by Obama’s refusal to support medical aid being given to babies who survive abortions. The Washington Times reports how registered nurse Jill Stanek, who worked as a labour and delivery nurse, saw babies who survived abortion attempts and then were left to die alone in supply rooms. They sometimes gasped for life for as long as eight hours, without medical care or the dignity of a warm blanket or a soft touch. Their tiny bodies were then dumped in the trash. Obama voted against an Induced Infant Liability Act in the Illinois legislature in 2002, which would have given legal protection and medical assistance to a baby born from a botched abortion. Obama also voted against banning partial-birth abortion in the Senate in October, 2007. On another key issue, the integrity of the traditional family, Barber says Obama will be the most radically pro-homosexual, anti-family president in history. “He's very quietly pledged as much to the homosexual ‘Human Rights Campaign,’ says Barber (http://oregonmag.com/Barber1108.html ). Barber adds that, despite any public protestations to the contrary, the overwhelming weight of the evidence indicates that Obama fully endorses the concept of same-sex “marriage:” “He's promised homosexual activists – in hushed tones – that if elected, he'll do everything possible to make it happen.” In 2004, Obama called the Defence of Marriage Act an “abhorrent law” and declared: “The repeal of DOMA is essential … For the record, I opposed DOMA in 1996. It should be repealed and I will vote for its repeal on the Senate floor. I will also oppose any proposal to amend the U.S. Constitution to ban gays and lesbians from marrying.” “We must be careful to keep our eyes on the prize – equal rights for every American,” he has told homosexual activists. “We must continue to fight for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). We must vigorously expand hate-crime legislation and be vigilant about how these laws are enforced. We must continue to expand adoption rights to make them consistent and seamless throughout all 50 states, and we must repeal the ‘don't ask, don't tell’ military policy.” Apart from issues of human life and the family, there are numerous other question marks surrounding Obama, many of which were covered by Dr. Jerome Corsi in his New York Times bestselling book, Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality. Some of the issues he raised are also discussed in his WorldNetDaily articles that are archived online. Another good overview of Obama’s dubious background is provided by David Kupelian, vice-president and managing editor of WorldNetDaily. In short, though Republican presidential candidate John McCain is not perfect with regard to the key issues – particularly in the realm of embryonic stem cell research – he is light years ahead of Obama and easily deserves the vote of faithful Catholics, Christians in general and all people concerned about the current moral decline.
