Attacker spent day in prison, released after posting bond

FAU Professor and Mosque leader, Bassem Alhalabi arrested



(Boca Raton, FL) Bassem Abdo Alhalabi, the individual who assaulted Americans Against Hate (AAH) Chairman Joe Kaufman in Tallahassee, Florida on March 11th, was arrested in Boca Raton on Monday, March 22nd. He was held in the custody of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, until his bond was posted at 2:15 am on March 23rd.

Alhalabi is an associate professor at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and has been with the university since August 1996. As well, Alhalabi is a director and co-founder of the Islamic Center of Boca Raton (ICBR) and a member of United Voices for America (UVA), the group that he was representing when he attacked Kaufman. Kaufman had been in Tallahassee speaking out about the terrorist ties of UVA and its President, Ahmed Bedier. On Monday morning, Kaufman appeared on the Erich “Mancow” Muller show to discuss the assault and stated his wishes that Alhalabi be “prosecuted to the full extent of the law.” Alhalabi has been charged with one count of battery.
