FBI Docs: Police were warned of Sandy Hook shooter's identity and plans - FOUR YEARS - before it happened

Sandy Hook, FBI, Police, gun control, mass shootings, pedophilia Whenever we talk about mass shootings I always make the argument that the weapon used isn't particularly relevant. It's just a tool. If one tool is unavailable, another will present itself. The problem isn't the gun, it's a combination of mental health issues and the desire to commit such an atrocity in the first place. Still, those who seek to ban firearms always scream "gun control" and bring up the unmitigated horror of Sandy Hook. While other incidents fade into history, Sandy Hook - because of the innocence of its victims - remains fresh. It is, to this day, every parent's worst nightmare.

Police said there was nothing they could do

Now we know it could have been prevented. According to newly released FBI documents, police had been warned of the shooter's plan years before the attack took place. ...And the police said there was nothing they could do. From the New York Post:
Adam Lanza expressed his desire to commit the Sandy Hook massacre years before the tragedy took place — and when a witness alerted police, cops said there was nothing they could do, newly released FBI documents reveal. In 2008, the witness, whose name has been redacted, heard Lanza say that he had access to assault weapons and planned to kill students at the elementary school, along with his mother, Nancy Lanza, according to a cache of documents released this week. “Lanza allegedly [said] that he planned to kill his mother and children at Sandy Hook in Newtown, Connecticut,” the document reads.

They were warned of his plan FOUR YEARS before it was carried out and it was allowed to proceed

Four years. They were warned of his plan FOUR YEARS before it was carried out and it was allowed to proceed. How many times are we going to do this dance? How many times are we going to have to witness one of these monstrous events, only to find out later that the "lone wolf" was actually a "known wolf." Regular readers of the site will know that I'm about as hardcore a constitutionalist as you'll find. I prize civil liberties above all else and I argue for the sovereignty of the individual on a regular basis. I despise the concept of the police state. But we have got to find a way to walk a line where we can protect rights and still deal with people like Lanza BEFORE they take dozens of lives - particularly when they're already known to authorities. We have to stop #-footing around and take these threats seriously. If that means laws need to change, so be it. We can no longer put the protection of the obviously mentally ill above protection of the rest of society. "Reaction" and "gun control" are no longer acceptable responses, particularly when you have advance knowledge of this many red flags:

He had an obssession with mass shootings and was an advocate for pedophilia

The witness said his story could be corroborated by phone records from his home land line as well as travel records. He said he was driven to let investigators know he had contacted police four years earlier because he felt “bad about not doing more to try and prevent” the massacre from taking place. ...In addition to Lanza’s talking about the plot, the newly released documents also revealed his obsession with mass shootings and his interest in pedophilia. ...The documents also reveal that federal agents may have visited Lanza’s home prior to his mass shooting, when he hacked into a government computer system.
He was on the feds' radar and was visited by federal agents. He had an obssession with mass shootings and was an advocate for pedophilia. Police had been warned of his plan to kill his mother and a school full of children. They even knew which school it was. ...And yet all those concerns, warnings and red flags led to precisely nothing. Sickening.
