The best thing Donald Trump’s got going for him, besides the tidal populist wave that could drag conservatism into unchartered waters, is Glenn Beck hunkered down on the Ted Cruz campaign. Holy $#@*! Donald Trump walked into a Nevada caucus last night and took over the stage while Beck was holding forth!
Political opponents, who don’t play nice with each other when they’re out stumping on the campaign trail, are often on the lookout for rude disruption potential and last word delivery. But instead of telling Trump to shove off by continuing to hold the floor, Beck went into retreat and is today comparing Trump supporters to the “brown shirts” of the Hitler era. “Talk radio host Glenn Beck, who was in Nevada campaigning on behalf of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). at the caucus, denounced Donald Trump’s supporters as “brown shirts” after the GOP frontrunner upstaged Beck by making an impromptu appearance at the same caucus venue he was speaking at.” (Breitbart, Feb. 23, 2016) The Donald won that round and we will likely be reading about it anytime soon on Twitter.

Beck took to Facebook where he likely hoped to elicit sympathy by protesting the behavior of Trump supporters, rating them as “some of the nastiest people I have ever been with”. “We have their hate and rage on tape,” Beck wrote. “Others around them were embarrassed for them. It was scary and sad.” “I believe Trump, whether he knows it or not, is grooming brown shirts,” Beck stated, adding, “Don’t believe me, go to a caucus.” Beck sounded as vicious as mean-mouthed Trump, who started off his name-calling campaign against his Texas senator opponent by repeatedly calling him a “liar”; asserts that Cruz is “nasty” and “no one likes him”, and now calls him “sick”. It’s the kind of insults some divorcees fire off against their EXes. But at least Trump keeps his store of over-the-top insults for his opponent, not his opponent’s supporters. No matter how over-zealous Trump’s supporters may have come on in Nevada, they do not deserve to be called “brown shirts”, the name for Hitler’s notorious paramilitary group. The unprecedented level of vitriol taints the 2016 election campaign with a circus and soap opera-like atmosphere. Gone like the wind are the days when statesmen held voter interest through intelligent and issue-based debate. Hurling hurtful insults at those you consider your political enemies is ungentlemanly and un-Christian. Beck calls Trump supporters “brown shirts”. We don’t rightly know what to call someone who prances about with George Washington’s copy of ‘Don Quixote’ that Mt. Vernon says is still in their possession. Meanwhile, Beck should have stood up to Trump last night, rather than go after Trump supporters the next day. SOS to Senator Ted Cruz from fans: Time to ponder whether Glenn Beck is helping or hindering your campaign?
