. . . then welched on her end of the deal when she thought it might look bad politically

Hillary approached king of Morocco offering appearance for $12 million . . .

I guess this one falls under the highly overutilized heading of If-This-Was-Any-Other-Election-Year-This-Would-End-Her, but maybe there are some of you who still care about a candidate for president of the United States being this dirty. The upshot - and all of this comes via WikiLeaks (of course) from e-mails written personally by Huma Abedin, John Podesta and Robby Mook - is that Hillary took the initiative to personally approach the king of Morocco, offering to make a personal appearance at a special event the Moroccans would host, if the king would cut a check to the Clinton Foundation for a cool $12 million. Nice work if you can get it.
But as the date approached when Hillary was supposed to keep her end of the deal and make the appearance, her campaign staff started getting worried that it would look bad, as she was just about to announce her candidacy for president. I'll let Fox News take it from there:
In January 2015, Mook indicated Clinton was still considering whether to attend the event, even though her advisers clearly seemed to be concerned about the appearance of such heavy involvement in the foundation amid questions about its fundraising. With the subject line, "FYI CGI Africa," Mook sent an email to Podesta and Abedin on January 18, 2015. "Came up on our call with HRC," wrote Mook. "John flagged the same issues we discussed, Huma. HRC said she's sitll(sic)considering." Abedin wrote back later that day, and suggested the King would be furious if Clinton pulled out of the event. "Just to give you some context, the condition upon which the Moroccans agreed to host the meeting was her participation," Abedin wrote. "If hrc was not part if(sic) it, meeting was a non-starter." Abedin added that CGI had not even come up with the idea to hold the event in Morocco, instead it was generated by Clinton herself. "This was HRC's idea, our office approached the Moroccans and they 100 percent believe they are doing this at her request," wrote Abedin. "The King has personally committed approx $12 million both for the endowment and to support the meeting."

Ultimately, Hillary did pull out - presumably infuriating the king - and sent Bill and Cheslea instead. So let's review: Hillary goes to the king on her own - it was her idea to do it, as Abedin makes clear - and offers a deal. You give the Clinton Foundation $12 million, and I'll show up and participate in this event you can host. The king cuts the check with the clear understanding that Hillary's personal participation in the event is an absolute, non-negotiable condition. Then, when Hillary's campaign staff gets worried that it will look bad for her campaign, she bails on her commitment and doesn't go. Nice. And you thought Hillary would at least keep promises to her wealthy benefactors. Not necessarily. Not if it makes her look bad in any way. Obviously this whole things stinks to high heaven, from beginning to end. No past, present or potentially future U.S. government official should be approaching a monarch of another country with a pay-for-play proposition like this. And obviously the only reason the king would agree to it would be to buy favor from the Clintons in the event Hillary was successful in her pursuit of the presidency. When she was a senator and then Secretary of State, foreign donors would grease the palms of the Clintons to get favors Hillary could grant them from those positions. Once she was no longer Secretary of State, their only reason for continuing to give was in the event she would eventually become president. Then their influence could really pay off. And now we learn that she owes a big fat one to Morocco, not only because she accepted the $12 million but also because she broke the deal and didn't deliver the payoff that she promised, because the whole thing was her idea.

How it works in ClintonWorld:

I'm getting this impression about how it works in ClintonWorld: You've got certain cronies who are every bit as brazen and shameless as Hillary (cough Sid Blumenthal cough), and others who - while they're totally complicit in enabling this woman's behavior - at least have enough political savvy to know that you have to watch what you do and how you do it. Hillary seems to fall into the former category. I know! I'll go to the king and ask him for $12 million and promise to show up at some point and gladhand! What could go wrong? Then Abedin, Podesta and Mook have to deal with the fallout of her impuslively reckless corruption. I have no sympathy at all for them. It's their choice to remain affiliated with this woman. But I can only imagine how much other stuff like this they've had to deal with. Or I should say, I can only imagine it until WikiLeaks exposes it as well.
