“Well, I thought Trump was behaving in a deplorable manner. I thought a lot of his appeals to voters were deplorable. I thought his behavior as we saw on the “Access Hollywood” tape was deplorable. And there were a large number of people who didn’t care. It did not matter to them. And he turned out to be a very effective reality TV star.”Hillary made the comments during her book-related interview with Jane Pauley. The host reminded her that attacking the very voters she needed to woo only energized the opposing team.
“You fed into that though. When you said ‘basket of deplorables’, you energized”
“They were already energized.”On this last point, she's correct. Trump already had momentum that Hillary simply could never generate. He had it in the primaries, too. However, that doesn't mean it's a good idea to insult half the voting population Unless *ahem* you're an arrogant ego-maniac and you're 100% certain you've already won, you should be trying to draw supporters away from your opponent. There's simply no question that the "deplorables" line added fuel to a rapidly growing fire. Either Hillary is genuinely incapable of understanding that, or she doesn't want to admit it and this is just part of her blame-shifting. Whatever the real reason, if you voted for Trump, Hillary is still willing to tell you that you're deplorable. The out-of-touch video appears below.
