Heard for the first or last time?

I’m in charge!

The first time I remember hearing a similar cry is immediately after President Ronald Reagan was shot in Washington, DC. March 30, 1981, Alexander Haig, Secretary of State at the time declared, “I’m in control here” as the President was hospitalized. Misplaced at the time, ignoring the order of succession, I’ll fast forward to the current government administration.

This Sunday’s BBC displayed a headline reporting the latest “British Petroleum” effort in stopping the flow of oil and gas from the 5000 foot deep Gulf of Mexico blown out well. BP CEO Tony Hayward released to reporters the results they had to except which were reported as follows.

'Top kill' BP operation to halt US oil leak fails

In the BBC’s comment section known as: BBC-Have Your Say-the question was asked and answered by some 500-plus individuals including my commentary. What's your view of the response to the US oil spill? Ian Jay Germaine 30/5/2010 It is unfortunate that BP hasn't a long term history of investing in safety, however their immediate response to this tragic occurrence hasn't suffered.  Living adjacent to the Gulf Coast and a background with Royal Dutch Shell before retirement has indicated a recent shift in governance since their Texas City incident. The response of the U.S. Government has been dismal or non-existent using this occasion to politically spread their tail as a proverbial Peacock in furtherance of another agenda.   My question is where has the government been as they took charge of spills of environmental consequence. Since the 94’ Exxon Valdez ship grounding the U.S. has collected 8 Cents per barrel for clean up purposes. The dollar amount would not have been adequate and the over sight would not have prevented all possibilities but the indication was “We’re in charge”. Somehow there must have been a "Sunset" clause in the law that a low level staffer inserted. Could the money have already been spent in the “General Fund”?   Now I consider other assertions. "I am the President," and "I’m in charge”, and “fully engaged” since the very beginning"???  Again this has been repeated in one fashion or another, covering every Democratic agenda item, the taking over of the "Private Sector".  Not the regulation, but the taking over. Banking, Stock Market, Auto Industry, Pharmaceutical Industry and Health Care to name a few.   Unlike that Peacock, however, Obama has admitted that he is not perfect in spite of its quest.  If he ever gave that impression it would have been a mistake and we know that his constitution wouldn't allow that.  In his mind "Perfection is a fault, and he has no faults.” Heralded as the worst U.S. environmental disaster ever, I would question the validity and the definition as being too narrow and non-inclusive. There has been a shift in the makeup of American exceptional qualities. The social environment believed by some in statements like, “It is so because we say it’s so” and becomes just a black or white alternative. There is no room for shades of gray, no room for individual growth and ingenuity. The social and cultural forces that shape the life of a person or a population are not left to the individual but are controlled by the Government. A sector of the population no longer believes that the freedom of capitalism allows empathy as well as the tool to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate. How short sighted they are.
