"Each year we cut about 10% [of brands carried] and refresh our assortment with about the same amount," a Nordstrom spokesperson told Business Insider. "In this case, based on the brand's performance we've decided not to buy it for this season."While Nordstrom has claimed that the brand has not been doing well, reality says otherwise when it comes to overall sales. According to G3's 2016 annual statement, ticker $GIII, the manufacturer and distributor of Ivanka's clothing line, the brand is doing quite well -- enjoying a $29.4m bump in sales to $100m.
"Initially, when her father started to run for President, I wondered if there'd be a negative or positive effect," said Sammy Aaron, vice chairman of G-iii, who oversees the Ivanka Trump brand at the company as well as being CEO of its Calvin Klein division. "We've really seen very little effect."Judge Janine Pirro said on Fox News that she's "fed up" with the "childish and hateful treatment of a woman who should be celebrated by the so-called feminists." Judge Janine also pointed out that despite the fact that leftist retailers are dropping Ivanka's products, "sales of the Ivanka Trump brand have risen about 32%." We must ask, then: Did Nordstrom drop Ivanka because the product is suffering, or was it totally political capitulation? Axios says Nordstrom may be playing politics, after all.
Nordstrom says its decision was based on performance, but a spokesman for Ivanka's fashion line tells Axios the retailer ordered both shoes and apparel for spring 2017, and only canceled the former. Moreover, the brand claims year-over-year revenue growth in 2016, and Nordstrom's co-president reportedly wrote an internal memo last November that referred to Ivanka Trump's wares as "a sizable and successful business."
