Las Vegas, Nevada, where unity, fun and smiles are all around

109 degree F Las Vegas, Nevada: I said to my son, a Marine veteran who had a short break between summer and fall college semesters, as we walked among the crowds both inside and outside hotels on our short Las Vegas trip, "I haven't seen anybody who appears to be on vacation here who doesn't appear happy," as I noted families, couples, and others relaxing, smiling and enjoying themselves. The unity of families and friends, from across the color spectrum, ruled the day. Each day we've been here, people of many races and colors, and various religions interacted in peace and unity. Languages from around the world could be heard at restaurants, shows, in the casinos, and at any of several pools where we stayed at the MGM Grand.
At the aquatic complex, one pool was a "lazy river" type pool, where people leisurely floated on "inner tube" type inflated floats as they drank beers, mixed drinks, or enjoyed other cool non alcoholic refreshment. American people of many races, and colors, were side by side, smiling, floating down the lazy river. Thoughts of Ferguson, Missouri racial unrest seemed far away. My son noticed an abundance of people carrying pool cue cases. After we were here a couple of days we learned of a big pool convention, and saw some practice pool tables at the Westgate Hotel and Casino near the huge Las Vegas Convention Center. We rode several times on the monorail, which stopped about every 7 minutes at the MGM station, and stopped at various hotels on the strip. There seemed to be a lot of these pool players and many brought their spouses or families. Again, smiles, smiles, smiles from the people attending the pool convention. I never realized how popular that pool was until I saw all of these pool players toting their pool cues in cases. Restaurants we went to were busy, food excellent, and servers pleasant and eager to serve. We attended the Cirque du Soleli production of Ka' at the MGM Grand, a near sold out production in a fantastic auditorium, again, full of smiling people who spoke many different languages from around the world. It's a combination of martial arts and acrobatics that I would say is a must-see for one on a Las Vegas trip. We saw in Las Vegas, big crowds, happy visitors, accommodations of a size that people could be served in a timely matter, quality food and staff. As I saw one building with the Trump name on top, it came to mind that someone who ran hotels among other businesses probably would have good experience to run America, or make America strong again.

The degree of Americans I saw in Las Vegas, together in unity, side by side, along with visitors from around the world, happy, smiling, enjoying themselves, families together, was heartening to see. But of course we have seen some homeless people on the streets, some at least being honest with signs reading, "Need money for strippers" and "Need money for beer and weed", among others. It is troubling seeing these down and out people, and on a 109-degree day too. The need for a reliable supply of electricity was evident once one stepped outside the air conditioned comfort of hotels and casinos. Then, I came back to the hotel room today, turned on the local news, and saw that none other than Hillary Clinton was in town today, and the local Channel 3 News I was watching said there were still questions about her computer server. I wonder what she will say as she arrives in 109 degree Las Vegas, Nevada, today? 300-plus greet Hillary Clinton in North Las Vegas More than 300 cheering and applauding people welcomed Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton to a town hall at the Pearson Community Center in North Las Vegas where she was scheduled to speak Tuesday.
