Left pretty excited to see racist Americans recoil at $20 bills featuring Harriet Tubman

You almost wonder if they did it just to bait certain people into racist reactions, because boy, what a story that would be for the race-baiting left and their media allies in a presidential election year. Defeat the Tubman-hating racist Republicans! Of course, there's nothing at all wrong with Harriet Tubman being on the $20 bill, because a) she was a perfectly admirable historical figure; and b) it doesn't matter in the slightest whose face is on your money. This is the sort of meaningless sybolism the left loves to pick fights over, and in this case they've already started attacking all the "right-wing racists" before any have even come forward. Occupy Democrats got the ball rolling yesterday:
Almost on cue, as soon as the news that former anti-slavery activist and women’s rights hero Harriet Tubman would be replacing notorious ethnic cleanser President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill, the internet steeled itself for the outpouring of anger and complaints coming from upset whites. Excited liberals made some excellent jokes, while white supremacists and racists in general were very displeased. The right-wing seems to have two reactions to this new development. The first is to blame “Obama” for “pandering” to African-Americans and blackwashing history, discarding the value of Jackson’s military victories and praising him for organizing genocide against Native Americans. The second is to try to twist the narrative, painting Tubman as a “black Republican” and Jackson as a “Democrat,” even though of obviously the natures of the parties have not remained constant over the past two hundred years.
What follows is a series of embedded tweets, first from liberals predicting a racist conservative backlash, and then from critics of the move that supposedly confirm the prediction. Except they don't, because a) there is only a handful; and b) no one knows who these people are or if they are representative of anything. For all we know, they could be Democrats. At least one appears to be almost certainly tongue-in-cheek.

But this is the ongoing tension between what the left says it wants and what it actually does when it gets what it wants. If you want to put a black woman on money because that's a proper way of including blacks and women in something you see as an honor, then go for it and be happy if it happens. But they can't be happy. Instead, they have to immediately look over at their political opponents in the hope that they're acting all racist about it, and make that - not the success of their effort - the real news story. Who do you want us all talking about? Harriet Tubman and the good things she did? Or some guy on Twitter who may or may not have dropped a racist insult about her? The truth is, they only want to introduce Harriet Tubman into the equation to draw out racist Twitter guy, because he's the one they really want everyone looking at. If liberals were honest about their agenda, they'd skip Harriet Tubman and just put racist Twitter guy on the $20 bill. That would upset pretty much everyone - and that's the whole idea. The truth is there is no massive racist outcry about this news - nor is there even a small one. There might be a few inconsequential individuals, but who cares? They are not important. And pictures on money are not important. Obama could put his own picture on money for all I care. I'd just like him to stop borrowing so much of it.
