Matt Drudge not the problem, Senator Cruz

Rather than coming out on the attack against Matt Drudge, Senator Ted Cruz should endeavor to be more like him. Conservative to the core, feisty at heart and relentlessly independent. That’s Matt Drudge, and that’s why untold millions go daily to the Drudge Report. “I need no traffic from Google. I don’t care if I get one traffic referral from Google or Bing or Yahoo or any of these others… Everybody’s so hungry for referrals, for likes. I don’t need to be liked,” Matt Drudge told Alex Jones in October. (Breitbart Oct, 7 2016)
Like most politicians, Cruz, who yesterday told a local California radio show that Drudge has “become the attack site for the Donald Trump campaign”, depends on social media for easy publicity. “This whole social media stuff is bogus. Facebook: ‘we have 2 billion users’? This is garbage. This is designed to demoralize the individual”, Drudge told Jones. ‘I’ll never have 2 billion followers.’ The Internet is what you make of it. It’s the same battle as it was in the beginning. I remember having this argument with Brit Hume once live on C-SPAN. He goes, ‘the Internet’s all UFOs and all this crap.’ And I said, ‘no, the Internet is what you make of it.’ In the beginning, they were dismissing the Internet. They were pooh-poohing it… Now they make it over in their image. “Now it’s these endless, monotonous tweets–meaningless, meaningless! To me. It’s just a lot of gnats. A lot of confusion. The reality of the situation is life on Earth has not changed. We need facts; we need events; we need specifics on things. Not all this confusion. It’s almost, they’ve made the Internet over in their image, these corporations–and I think they’re failing.” It was a Tweet “We did it. #Never Trump that became the bottom line in Saturday’s Colorado controversy. Cruz and his supporters are saying that what happened in Colorado came about because of a long-standing process already in place, and not because of political shenanigans of any kind.

If that is the case why did ‘someone’ within the high-handed Colorado GOP send out a Tweet announcing to the outside world: “We did it”? Who sent the Tweet and why was it sent? Why is Cruz now telling Matt Drudge how to run his news site?
“Look, Drudge Report over the years has done a good job highlighting the excesses of the left and the excesses of liberalism, and about the past month the Drudge Report has basically become the attack site for the Donald Trump campaign. And so every day they have the latest Trump attack. They’re directed at me. It — by all appearances, Roger Stone now decides what’s on Drudge, and most days they have a six-month-old article that is some attack on me, and it’s — whatever the Trump campaign is pushing that day will be the banner headline on Drudge. (Brietbart, April 11, 2016) "By the way, they no longer cover news. Remember they used to have things like election results? They don’t put those on Drudge anymore. When we win a state, suddenly the state doesn’t matter. You know Colorado — there was no red siren on Drudge when we won all 34 delegates in Colorado. That wasn’t news, because — I mean listen, that’s fine. If people want to get on the “Trump train,” they can. I actually think we need real and meaningful solutions to the problems in this country, and as president my focus is going to be on three things: jobs, freedom and security. "My number one priority is bringing jobs back to America, raising wages for everyone, making it easier for people struggling to achieve the American Dream. That’s my focus. I’m going to let others worry about the silly political game and the circus.”

Sure, Ted. Cruz already has Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and Glenn Beck in his corner. Now all because he can’t count on Drudge sticking pitchforks into Trump’s hide, he broadly concludes “they no longer cover the news”. It seems that Drudge, not running for any political office, also has the edge over Cruz on what is happening in the Hillary Clinton presidential bid: “I’ve been saying that they could put Hillary Clinton’s brain in a jar in the Oval Office and she would be elected.” Matt Drudge has the stones to fight Hillary Clinton. Where are Ted Cruz and Donald Trump in the battle that matters most? Cruz and Trump need to cut the electorate a break by putting their egos in their back pockets and turning the catfight that is polarizing Americans on the real enemy: Hillary Clinton guaranteed to give to the most anti-American president in history his third term in office.
