Idiot narratives: The media are so awful. The seven people who were watching MSNBC at the time must have been horrified

Media freaks because Florida Gov. Scott ducks stupid question about whether 'Islam hates America'

This is why I hate the media. This is what makes them so terrible. And Joe Scarborough isn't always the worst of the bunch, but this is the worst the media gets. Donald Trump makes a very general statement about Islam hating America. Rick Scott comes on Morning Joe. Rick Scott is not part of Donald Trump's campaign. Rick Scott has said nothing about Islam hating America. Rick Scott does not speak for Donald Trump. He is supposedly a "friend of Donald Trump" according to Scarborough, but that doesn't require Scott to take responsibility for anything Trump says. Nevertheless, Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are determined to trap Scott with a question about something he has nothing to do with, and when he won't take the bait, they get extremely irritated with him. Watch:

Just awful. Give Rick Scott credit for keeping his cool and refusing to fall into the trap. This is one of those classic media yes-or-no questions for which there simply isn't a yes-or-no answer. If you say, yes, all Muslims hate America, you've obviously overstated the case and you're going to alienate a bunch of people in your state. If you say no, then you give the media the headline they're after - and it's not your job to give them headlines. By the way, the answer Scott actually did give was substantive. He talked about his policy on Syrian refugees. He talked about how effectively Florida works as a melting pot of different people. (And I agree, provided all the New Yorkers stay on the Atlantic side and leave the gulf coast for us midwesterners.) The problem with Scott's answer was not that it didn't contain any information. It's that it didn't assist the hosts in creating the rift they were looking for between Trump and Scott. And why exactly is it Rick Scott's job to weigh in on statements made by another candidate for another position that is not his? The media game of do-you-repudiate is pathetic and sad. It offers no insight or useful information, and merely puts people on the spot about things that have nothing to do with them. The media are so awful. The seven people who were watching MSNBC at the time must have been horrified.
