A rest for political sanity?

My caucus circa senior citizens

Isn't it just a little mind boggling when you think about the multitude of politically charged items that continue to plague our daily lives?Sometimes I lose sleep with the discomfort of contemplating what’s coming next.

So I’m changing my routine now that I’ve been invited back to visit with friends of old in Jacksonville, Florida to celebrate with my former classmates our collective median age retention of sixty-five years. So innate is my desire to reconnect with those friends that started and were subject to much of the same influences, that a certain excitement engulfs me. Although the first thought is not the political life that affects us all, health care, the economy, religion, freedom and our views on American exceptionalism, I will make mental notes to draw on. Suzanne, Jan, Jonnie, Kathy, Sherry and Phyllis are part of my segmented views along with Steve, Randy, Charlie, Bill and Mack to name a few that have lived lives different from my own. Many others will help sooth the savage beast within. My observation is that sovereignty is no longer taken seriously by our government; the Constitutional authority has been deemed as their primary responsibility. The fostering of the machine responsible for our nation’s growth, the entrepreneur and bearing the fruit of one’s own labor is now cast as the enemy of the Republic. In fact divisiveness seems to be the driving force behind those in power, the Democrat Congressional Leadership. Whether racial, economic, age, sex, national origin, even differences between following the law or acting in semi anarchy by violating the law with those in charge of supporting the law closing their eyes, or for that matter engaging in violations, also seem the order of the day. For the last several years I've kept involved with politics and selfishly, because of how it affects me and mine. My memories of times past are a reference point, but also a gauge of today and expectations of tomorrow being successful or failing for what's left of and for future generations. No, I don't wish to give an impression that my activism goes much further than writing my take on current events. But for the first time ever, I gave some financial support to candidates that by deed seemed to lean more to my beliefs than not. My beliefs politically, religiously and fiscally are common sense to me. Being more of a believer in the wisdom of our country's founders and the Constitution they wrote is considerably greater today than ever it was in my youth. That, if for no other reason little by little, although fairly rapidly it's being ripped away. The many Freedoms that seemed to be taken for granted have much more meaning. I differ in the belief that the freedom and rights that are preserved in the Constitution are God given only to be taken for granted. God inspired yes, but let there be no misunderstanding they were fought for, with sweat from the brow and the letting of blood. My religious belief is also very simple , both by choice and lineage, very much like most Americans of immigrants whether Christian, Jewish or other monotheisms. As espoused by varied groups consisting basically of the same words beginning with, "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me". That first commandment supersedes any government, even if slight alterations identify different or varied beliefs. We all derived through that same initial spark of life. By name I use Christianity and Judaism as that Constitution I spoke of earlier embodies much of the structure and framework of its laws. And we are a Nation of laws. So the respite I am going to in my mind is deserved, and is a present to myself. A time to check my mental state and smile with memories of times gone bye. Many of the questions I have are self initiated or initiated by my friends. The great advantage of the group is they consist of all political parties, many religions, professions and I'm sure, diverse opinions on what is right and wrong. I hope to return with the wisdom of the sages.
