In 1965, Shotover Jet took its first passenger and helped put New Zealand on the global tourism map. On November 13, 2015, Shotover Jet will be turning 50 years old. And on that day, it will become the first jet boat operator in the world to have operated continuously for this many years.

Shotover Jet’s first year of operation saw one wooden boat that carried five passengers. That year, they carried 1,480 passengers. Since then, Shotover Jet has carried more than three million passengers and is now famous for its exhilarating 360-degree spins. Some of their famous passengers have included:
  • The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
  • Ryan Reynolds
  • Alanis Morissette
  • Hugh Jackman
  • Sir Peter Jackson
  • Brooke Shields
Shotover Jet operates on an exclusive area of the Shotover River and is the only company permitted to operate within its spectacular canyons, carved out over the ages by a vast volume of fast-flowing water. The very grandeur of this spectacular environment, less than a 10-minute drive from Queenstown, adds to the excitement and exclusivity of the Shotover Jet experience. Combining the classic New Zealand invention of the jet boat with the Kiwi culture of adventure, Shotover Jet has become part of the fabric of what is quintessentially New Zealand and has taken jet boating from its humble beginnings to being one of New Zealand’s most iconic “must do” visitor activities. Shotover Jet’s prices are $135 NZD ($118 CAD) for adults and $75 NZD ($66 CAD) for children.
