Color us shocked: Shocker, Omar Mateen wasn't a gay-hating gun nut inspired by decades of right-wing talk radio

Newly released transcript reveals Orlando nightclub terrorist was ISIS sympathizer retaliating for drone strike in Iraq

You'll obviously remember that, on June 12, Omar Mateen walked into an Orlando-area gay nightclub and started shooting. He murdered 49 innocent people and injured 53 others. What you may not remember is that police stormed the club - and killed Mateen - only after they'd spent several hours trying to convince him to surrender. Liberals, as usual, spent the following days trying to blame anything other than Islam for Mateen's attack. At various times he was portrayed as a crazed homophobe, a gun nut, and a deranged loner seeking attention. Basically, they did everything they could to cram Mateen into one of their preferred stereotypes. "News" outlets like the Washington Post tried to say Mateen's motives were "murky" and that we may never know what inspired his attack.
A month later, though, a complete picture of what motivated Mateen remains murky and may never be known since he was killed in a shootout with police and did not leave a manifesto. Officials said there is no evidence thus far that Mateen, 29, was gay or that his attack was motivated by homophobia.
Since the transcript of the negotiator's discussion with Mateen was never released, they could pretend the killer was anything they wanted him to be. ...And "Islamic terrorist" was not on their list. Unfortunately for apologists, the transcript has now been made public. Not only was Mateen a follower of ISIS, the attack was retaliation for a very specific incident. As the FreeBeacon reports:

During an exchange in the early morning hours of June 12, an Orlando Police Department negotiator identified only as “Andy” asked Mateen, who was speaking by cell phone from inside the club, to tell him what was going on. “Yo, the air strike that killed Abu Wahid a few weeks ago… that’s what triggered it, okay?” said Mateen, who earlier in the conversation identified himself as a follower the Islamic State terror group. “They should have not bombed and killed Abu Wahid,” the former security guard declared. “Do your # homework and figure out who Abu Wahid is, okay?” Additionally, Mateen praised one of the bombers of the 2013 Boston Marathon, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and another domestic terrorist whose name was transcribed as unintelligible in the released transcript.

For the record, Wahid was a top level ISIS leader who operated in Iraq's Anbar Province. He found himself on the wrong end of a United States missile back in early May.
Abu Wahid, the terror group's 'military emir' in Iraq's Anbar Province, died on May 6 in an air strike near the desert town of Rutba, Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said. In March, the group's purported second-in-command and its military commander were both killed in separate strikes. Wahid, said to have an almost mythical status among Islamic State fighters, gained worldwide infamy when a video emerged of him ordering the deaths of a number of truck drivers he believed were Syrian government agents.
Shocker, Omar Mateen wasn't a gay-hating gun nut inspired by decades of right-wing talk radio. He was simply your garden variety Islamic radical: A sick ideologue who uses fear and murder as tools to drag the world back into a fascist stone age.
