The political as well as economic environment today is far removed from the days of previous shut-downs. In the mid-90s, the rare similarities to today were a Democrat in office dueling with Conservatives in Congress on the heels of liberal spending and failure to produce government budgets. What has changed is the birth of the Tea Party, a citizenry highly disgruntled with the man in the Oval Office (to include his own constituency), and a deficit as well as national debt unmatched in the history of the country.

It is precisely these differences that have positioned the GOP as far more in control of the issues today than they were in the mid 90s; especially when one considers the overwhelming control of spending the Republicans SHOULD be able to demand with the advent of the Tea Party Caucus and the bounty of new faces who arrived on November 2 who represent the uber-Conservatism inherent in the Tea Party. Alas, our leader, Boehner, is weak. He has acquiesced to the Left practically since day one: November 2. He bent over backwards to satisfy Reid, Pelosi and Co. in the lame-duck and hasn’t looked back since. What was supposed to be $100 billion in cuts is now so paltry as to be insulting. And why is Boehner capitulating? One word: fear. Boehner fears that a shut-down will end his career; just as the shut down in 1995 led him and his cohorts to crucify the last real Conservative to hold the post of Speaker: Gingrich. And his fear should never be confused with conservatism. Reagan never worked from a position of fear. He held the line on tax cuts and the nation was tremendously better for it. Fear and its cousin, fear mongering, are not attributes of Conservatives. Driving political ideals through fear is strictly a liberal modus operandi. This nation’s economy will never begin to heal as long as the liberals continue to rack up these unholy debts. Shutting down government and furloughing a few government workers (who routinely garner far higher wages and superior benefits than their private sector counterparts, thanks to the taxpayers) will do no more to harm the economy than what the liberals are doing this very day. And if, in the end, the unemployment rate skyrockets, as harsh as it may sound – albeit this comes from one who has been out of work for more than 2 years – the end result of higher employment (in truth) is simply another black eye for Obama. And isn’t that an acceptable result? It certainly is for me. Now watch this video for the TRUTH as it pertains to the ever-feared government shut down:
