Oh dear, who painted racist things on this black man's car? Of course . . .

Serious question, and it's one about which I'm genuinely concerned: Are young black people being made to feel that they have no real identity if they can't claim some sort of racial victim status? Are they being browbeaten into thinking that being strong, independent and happy means you're "trying to act white" or something along those lines? I realize that a lot of this is happening because the political left needs it to in order to keep the America-is-racist narrative alive. In the absence of actual racists rampaging across the country spray-painting hate graffiti on walls, they have to manufacture it to give the media something to talk about. It's dishonest in the extreme, but at least you can understand the motivation. But why do you want to position yourself a victim of it? What's behind the need for sympathy and attention so severe that you'll do this, and then report it to the police?

One of my favorite things about our boss is that he faced as much discrimination as anyone else when he was growing up, and he chose to view it as an obstacle to overcome, not as a reason to paint victim all over himself. In case you haven't noticed, he's accomplished a lot in his life. Maybe there's something to that. These hate-crime-revealed-as-hoax stories are becoming so commonplace, I think people are pretty much yawning at them now. It's almost to the point, if it's not there already, when most people are going to assume out of the gate that the hate-crime reports are bogus and give little if any consideration to the possibility they might be genuine. I wonder if the left has given that much thought from a big-picture perspective. It's not just that people won't believe your hate-crime report, but is this sort of thing going to make eyes roll when you complain about racism in general? You've got a substantial portion of the population disgusted with the NFL anthem-kneelers, who claim they're doing it to protest racist police brutality even though there's little evidence it exists on any broad scale. You've got normal non-activist types face-palming at talk of "white privilege" and whatever else. The left continues to go to town on all this like it always has, and for the most part corporations and other major establishments remain intimidated by those who talk the loudest about it - if only because they fear nothing more than bad publicity and controversy. Maybe that's why police departments continue not to charge the hate-crime hoaxers:

Dauntarius Williams, 21, admitted to spraying the racist graffiti on his own car that featured racial slurs like “go home,” “date your own kind,” and “die,” the Riley County Police Department said. Authorities decided not to charge the man for filing a false report, saying it would “not be in the best interests of the citizens.” The photographs of the vehicle covered in graffiti at an apartment complex near Kansas State University were posted last Wednesday. The picture prompted condemnation on social media and the school increased security. The FBI opened a civil rights investigation. "While William's mistake had a decidedly negative impact on the community, please recognize that he, like many of us when we were young, is a young man who made a mistake and is now doing his best to own up to it," Brad Schoen, director of the police department, said.

How's this now? What would happen in the event Williams was charged that would not be "in the best interests of the citizens"? Would Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton come to town and disrupt life as Manhattan knows it, claiming that charging Williams will discourage similar hoaxers in the future when we need these hoaxes to remind everyone about the dangers of fake racism? Seems to me local police are having enough time grappling with all the racism charges from the Colin Kaepernick sycophants of the world and don't need more reasons to come into conflict with the activist crowd if they can possibly avoid it. Williams would have been an activist hero if he's gotten away with it. Let the cops make the outcome worse by charging him, and they're just asking for the next police brutality charge accompanied by team coverage from the local TV yokels. By the way, if an actual racist has been caught in charged in any of these supposed hate crimes, by all means let me know about it. I don't want to use absolute language without justification, but as far as I can tell, not a single one of these incidents has turned out to be legitimate. If I missed something, please, fill me in.
