The State of Obama, an open letter

President Obama you are wrong.

The delivery of your State of the Union address was delivered not only to all those present in Congress, but became as in a long list of many before you, delivery to the American public. What an embarrassment. Not only am I ashamed for you, I’m ashamed of you.

Regardless of the many differences some of your Constituency question with your direction, you are the President, leader of the United States and its Territories, all of us. We must have your respect as you seem arrogantly to demand ours. Sparked by your comments of Thursday, January 21st, 2010 on a narrow Supreme Court decision, striking down parts of the McCain/Feingold Bill which had set criteria on how Political Campaign’s are financed you and some in your Political Party as well some on the other side of the isle, took exception. In a narrow Court ruling those parts of the Bill deemed a violation of the Free Speech Clause. At issue corporate funding, criticizing candidates for federal office within 30 days of an election primary or 60 days of a general election. I expected to hear a slightly less contentious tone on January 27th. In this State of the Union address mention was made of accomplishments. You noted “shore up the same banks that helped cause this crisis,” and “recovered most of the money we spent.” Noting upon taking office you indicated “we made it more transparent and more accountable” referring to the financial program. Myself, having time to listen while attempting to understand, have found less transparency to the process than all the years I’ve been allowed to vote. I can guess, listen to the pundits or adhere to the propaganda from the right or left. Not to go on dissecting every part of you address, during the past year you seemed to have touched on every section of the economy and society. Doctors, Health Care, Pharmaceutical, Energy, Pay Scale of any large industries CEO and Top management, first begrudging the high dollars some earn in comparison to others. During the past year you have praised then demonized each one of the industries. Your characterization along with that of the Party has been those that have vs. the have not. All this separates all and is divisive in nature. This year has been a year of attack. Our Military has felt it also in indecisiveness. What you have imposed or proposed too through Congress becomes an attack on the military, friendly international democracy’s and the sovereignty of the United States. At the same time there’s the invite of well wishes to those that are our enemies or certainly not our friends. Apologies on our behalf are abundant and handed out for all, as if we cause all the worlds ills. Most of the promises you made were the same that you made last year. They hadn’t been successful this past year for two reasons none of which you stated last night. Number 1, the people do understand the “Health Care Reform” as Government controlling the private sector. They do not want any more bureaucrats involved in health care than they already have. They do want some reforms and some expanded and less costly care. Number 2, they are empty promises as the public as a whole are smart and you ideas as presented are dusty. They are tired of hearing the excuse of the last eight years, or it’s Bush’s fault. Jobs are the most important item. Added Government jobs on the economy mean nothing. They serve their purpose but produce no Capital to propel the economy. I question where the high speed trains will take us to if no jobs are produced. Private industry is the driving force to economic growth. Finally, it’s your continuation with your full circle of attacks that I resent. When you repeated what you had stated on the 21st, “I am instructing my administration to get to work immediately with Congress on this issue. We are going to talk with bipartisan Congressional leaders to develop a forceful response to this decision” changing the words that were a personal attack on the Supreme Court whose members were invited guests. The comment you made were indeed an embarrassment to Judge Alito but not for himself, rather for you. Neither he nor the American people will begin to self flagellate with public scolding from our politicians.
