Ruby Dhalla Bill - Warm and Fuzzy Compassion or Coldblooded Politics

Ladies and Gentlemen, For those who missed it on Thursday, the much anticipated discussion took place with Ruby Dhalla, the Brampton, Ontario Member of Parliament.

It had to do with her private member's bill which is - and I want all supporters and critics of this program to hear these words very closely - the bill is promoting the idea of giving immigrant seniors a serious boost of pension money-----At the moment you have to live in the country for a minimum of ten years before qualifying for any pension money. Rub Dhalla's private members bill calls for that number to be reduced to three--She was on the show yesterday downloading the numbers... telling us what a senior could expect after living in the country for only three years. So you can do the math folks...up to 655 dollars a month per senior...you bring in good old MOM and Dad from a country like India or China or Haiti...and I mention those countries because Ruby Dhalla's bill specifically talks about India and China and the Caribbean and who could blame any senior from any of those countries for choosing to spend their senior years in Canada and I know this ticks off some people but I will say it again. Who can blame people for wanting to live in the greatest country in the world? Now of course this bill that Ruby Dhalla is proposing won't come up for a vote any time soon. It's in a very long, long cue. And of course, if it were put to a nationwide referendum, even Ruby Dhalla wouldn't suggest that it would pass. Folks, the Bill will NEVER PASS---It would be political carnage for any government that passes it, even a Liberal government and it is why Paul Martin and Jean Chretien never touched this idea which has been around for a long time and is getting its latest recycling from Ruby Dhalla, who represents a riding that is using the Ontario code - highly multicultural - to use Adler Nation language which used to be known as the Queen's English - densely populated with East Indian immigrants - many of whom are very proud of Ruby Dhalla - The Nanny Story and the cheesy Bollywood movies stories notwithstanding. An email now from a proud Canadian, who is a loyal listener of this program and trusts me enough to maintain his identity. I am honoured to have your trust sir, and I totally get where you are coming from. All of us who are related to so-called New Canadians from various ethnic groups outside of Canada's founding nations. All of us feel pain when we are targeted as some how caring more about our interests than the country's, when we are smeared as somehow less loyal to the country than those who are sons and daughters of Canadian families who have been in this country for many, many generations. He writes: Hi Charles, Maybe you already know this but I'd like to put it out there anyway. Most of these seniors that Dr. Dhalla is lobbying for as far as the East Indian community is concerned are not living in poverty because they live with their families who are very hard working but also not naive that keeping their parents with them as long as they can receive the $38 plus $600 times 2 parents is an extra 12-13 hundred dollars coming into the already pooled income of the rest of the Family. This is one of the reasons if not the biggest reasons Seniors (parents) are being sponsored and if you can manage the in laws to come over that's a cool $2500 bucks a month and to boot you have live in Babysitters and trust me it doesn't really cost alot to house because I know first hand the way alot of them get treated by there kids who are actually the ones cashing the cheques because I am East Indian and my parents and I have been here for 40 years and my parents also came here with $20 bucks in there pockets but they worked their butts off to put 4 kids through University while paying taxes and since they were labourers their Pensions aren't that great but we survive and live everyday with our heads held high. My father and I get phone calls all of the time to fill out these pension forms for people 2-3 days after they enter the country when their not even eligible for the $38 and as soon as they are eligible the siblings start fighting over who is going to house Mom and Dad because there is $$$$$$ attached and now they almost want full Benefits, but its all about the politics because I'm sure Dr. Dhalla got elected on the backs of people from the countries she mentioned on your show today and why not each household comes with 4-6 votes which goes along way in the Brampton Area. Like you say lets accommodate everyone even if they are robbing us blind on the grounds of compassion. Just Not Fair. Charles, please keep my name a secret. Consider me Just another P.O'd Canadian! And of course, he is not the only P.O'd Canadian. My inbox runneth over. I'm Charles Adler and this is the Corus Radio Network
