SA intercept leaker sympathized with terrorists

The latest case of Reality Winner is another wake up call that our national security has been badly compromised by allowing people with radical views, Winner, Edward Snowden, Bradley Manning, access to classified information. There were obvious tells in all these cases that were never seriously examined because it would have gotten in the way of business as usual.

The prosecution stated that Winner had a fascination with the Middle East and Islamic terrorism. The government claimed that they had found handwritten notes during a search at Winner’s home which appeared to sympathize with Osama bin Laden and other terrorists.

Authorities claim another handwritten statement found during a search of Winner’s home allegedly read: ‘I want to burn the White House down and go live in Kurdistan.’

So it’s not much of a surprise that Winner reached out to the Intercept, a notoriously pro-terrorist site. Glenn Greenwald, who was also a key player in Snowden’s treason, is one of the founders of The Intercept. And his sympathies for Islamic terrorists and anti-American politics are rather notorious. It’s good that the government is throwing the book at Winner. But as Obama’s pardon of Bradley Manning and Eric Holder’s enthusiasm for Snowden shows, any sentence may be meaningless. Another radical leftist president will pardon her. There need to be serious measures to prevent radicals from gaining access to classified information. Because we know exactly what they will do with it. We understood the problem quite well during the Cold War. But since then, laziness set in. Without the USSR, it didn’t seem to be a serious issue. We began to think that the threat was conventional espionage rather than the treason of political radicals. After all they didn’t really have any direction for their treason. From Wikileaks to the Intercept, that turned out to be wrong. Our national security has been badly compromised by assorted hacks and leaks. It’s time to start taking our security seriously.
