Scalise: Getting shot only 'fortified' his support of the 2nd Amendment

After House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R., La.) was shot during the assault on a Republican congressional baseball practice back in June, you could practically - and in some cases literally - hear the glee in left-wing voices. The ghouls came out on Twitter and had a grand ol' time chuckling about how the GOP had finally reaped what it had allegedly sewn. It was grotesque, but it's something we've come to expect. After the initial celebration died down, lefties started to suggest that maybe, finally, those who "bitterly cling" to their constitutional rights would learn their "lesson."
If you're among those who hoped that Republicans would abandon their support of 2nd Amendment rights, prepare yourself for disappointment. None other than Steve Scalise himself is here to burst your bubble. He's returned to work, and he wants to make sure you know that not only has he not changed his 2A stance, the ordeal he endured has only strengthened his resolve.
"I think it's fortified it because first of all you've got to recognize that when there's a tragedy like this, the first thing we should be thinking about is praying for the people who are injured and doing whatever we can to help them, to help law enforcement. We shouldn't first be thinking of promoting our political agenda. And I think we see too much of that where people say ‘OK, now you have to have gun control.' Well, first of all, look at some of those bills - those bills wouldn't have done anything to stop this. The gunman actually cleared background checks so to promote some kind of gun control is the wrong way to approach this."
If that wasn't enough to make progressive heads explode, Scalise continued...
"Every single day in America, regular citizens that just have a passionate belief in the Second Amendment that have their own guns, use guns every single day to protect themselves against criminals. And those stories never get told or hardly ever get told. But that's a different side of the story that I think is important. People use guns way more to defend themselves from criminals than criminal using guns to hurt people."

Scalise: Experience getting shot has 'fortified' my support for Second Amendment

Hooo, boy. That is going to drive the left absolutely nuts. If only they had someone who specialized in explaining to people that they don't really believe the things they say, and that votes cast in support of their deeply held opinions are in direct contradiction with their own best interests. ...Or does that only work for women? It's so hard to keep up with Democrat nonsense these days. Anyway, if you want (no pun intended) to see what "sticking to your guns" looks like, here it is:
