Self-indulgent Media Obama-izing Smiling Jack

In case you haven’t noticed, Canada’s media outlets are trying to do for socialist Jack Layton, what the American media did for Barack Obama 2008. Get him elected. The fix was in when the contents of an obscure poll in Quebec showed Layton moving ahead of the Bloc Quebecois in popularity. Those polling numbers were soon dubbed a “surge.” You see “surge” is an action word. It has power.

Any of you who have been following events since, saw how our usually unimaginative television networks, soon began copying one another and the “surge” suddenly began to be applied other parts of the country, namely British Columbia. Before we knew it, Smiling Jack’s visage was soon the lead story day after day among those who lamely claim the title of journalist in this country. And so the scene was set with every talking head on the tube proclaiming Jack’s superiority of everyone else. What did pollsters expect when one candidate is raised and praised over all others? Naturally there is going to be a reaction in favour of the many of the hour. Remember the Obama campaign in 2008? All Obama ever chanted was Yes, We Can and Change. But he had the media solidly behind him twisting every inanity issued from his mouth into deep pronouncements worthy of being included in the Bible. And huge numbers of Americans feel for it. Nobody stopped to ask Yes we can what? Change what? The Americans and people around the world are now finding out to their dismay what Obama meant. Bankruptcy, joblessness and hopelessness now have a once proud nation being portrayed as on the verge of collapse. I have lived in two provinces that had their economies destroyed by NDP governments. The first was Ontario and the second was British Columbia. Both were turned into economic basket cases by the likes of Smiling Jack Layton. I must give him credit. At least he is telling us that he will spend billions of dollars, just like his buddy Barack Hussein Obama, whose coterie of socialist advisors are coaching him. If anyone thinks we can spend our way to prosperity or by gutting the industries that create jobs and wealth had better give their wallets a shake. Tax and spend folks! Tax and spend. The NDP hamstrung B.C. and Ontario in less than one term in office. Capital flew out of those provinces along with industries while the NDP played footsie with corrupt environmental movements (who still hold sway in Ontario) and moved large swaths of people on to the welfare rolls. Neither province has fully recovered. People in those provinces should keep pictures of former Ontario Premier Bob Rae and former BC Premier Glen Clark on their refrigerators as reminders of what can befall the entire nation. And now the sordid media have banded together to flush Canadians down the toilet for another generation. I really have no clue as to their motive or agenda. It’s funny though how balanced reporting, ethical and unbiased coverage are so easily abandoned in favour of grovelling before the sacred cow of self-indulgent glory. I don’t know where you will seek out balanced election coverage, but it won’t be from Global, CTV, CBC or the major metropolitan press. Some semblance of balance might be found in community papers or broadcast outlets but it will be hard to find. Canadians will be entering their respective polling stations on Monday, May 2 thinking they make up their own minds about who they vote for. In some cases that might be so. Still, the frenzied campaign of mindless media hyperbole being offered up surrounding a fabricated NDP juggernaut rolling across the land, tells me that unscrupulous media posers are on a mission to make up your mind for you.
