Those who advocate the break-up of their countries are usually executed, assassinated or, at the very least, imprisoned. Unless, that is, they are lucky enough to live in Canada where they are not only tolerated but can demand funding from the federal government to campaign on a platform of treason.

Then, if elected, they are entitled to the same pay and perks as their loyal Canadian colleagues. Try explaining this state of affairs to American politicians who are routinely accused of not being patriotic enough because they don’t wear flags in their lapels. The up-side of catering to those who make no bones about their aim to break up the country shows a degree of maturity and confidence that doesn’t exist anywhere else that I know of. And yet, many of us are not sure whether to be proud, worried or disgusted about this state-of-affairs. William Bedford Toronto.
