Earlier, we talked about how Late-Night talk shows are archaic and unnecessary. The hosts are dinosaurs, lumbering across the entertainment landscape, completely unaware that the asteroid which will eventually wipe them out hit back in the 90's. Like the Clintons, these shows serve no purpose but continue to be a staple of American life - even though everyone has moved on.
They've always been around, the people in charge haven't got any better ideas, so they keep hanging around.
Maybe not for much longer, though. TV is, after all, a business. They don't like to admit it, but these hosts are beholden to viewers. If there are no eyes on the set, there's no show.
....And the rate at which they're gleefully alienating half the country suggests there won't be a show much longer.
Case in point is Seth Meyers, who (inspired by the edgy-for-2000 rapper Eminem) decided to give the finger to any Trump supporters that might be watching his show:

Anyway, the obvious joke is that there ARE no Trump supporters watching Late Night with Seth Meyers. We get it. There's a good chance that most Trump fans have no idea who Meyers is. Hilarious.
Still, if I was a network which most recently made a name for itself by refusing to run a perfectly reportable story on Harvey Weinstein, I'd take a good long look at myself and ask the following: "Do we really want to be the network which tells half of America 'we hate you'"?
