Snakes in the grass on the campaign trail

My unexpected encounter with a live snake lying in wait a few feet from where I was working inside the house, reminds me of what lies on the road to Election 2016. Shrieks to be heard coming from Lake Huron country yesterday morning were mine and not Hillary’s. My little dog Yankee tipped me off to its presence by trying to growl it away, and while someone else was getting rid of it, I was already out on the deck leading from the room where it was found, shivering and shaking. It was only a garter snake, and a little one at that, but I couldn’t help but wish that Totsy, ‘Queen of the Canada Free Press Comment Section’, was here to give me a much needed dose of common sense. Totsy, who living in Louisiana, would be used to much bigger snakes, would have told me there was no need to flee in fear from such a tiny reptile.
For the rest of the day, I avoided the room where it was found, even knowing that snakes don’t have ghosts. Living here for more than a year, I’ve never seen a snake--inside or out--and am still wondering how it ever slithered in. Fear of snakes seems to be part of the human DNA. The first one I ever saw as a child near railway tracks in Nova Scotia had me fleeing for safety as though Satan himself were in hot pursuit. “In Genesis, the snake is introduced as “more cunning than any of the creatures of the field that the LORD God had made” (Genesis 3:1). He’s a creature, but a smart one. In the book of Revelation, Satan is called “the ancient serpent” (Revelation 12:9, 20:2), which refers to the snake in Genesis..” (HuffPo, Sept. 23, 2012) Not many people like coming across a snake in the grass, but this is where election 2016 is surely taking us. This entire campaign is giving some of us Hillary “deplorables” the heebie-jeebies and keeping us awake at nights, wondering where we’ll all be after November 8.

The campaign brings with it that “something’s not right” sense of troubling unease. How is it possible that a president who so viscerally hates all things America remains at 50 percent in popularity polls? How is it possible that a president is out on the campaign trail stumping for the candidate who will give him an undeserved third term in office? As I wrote in yesterday’s cover column, Hillary’s health now dominates Hillary’s lies. Google is the undisputed digital power behind her presidential campaign. Google owns YouTube, the same platform that made Hillary’s collapse at the 15th anniversary of 9/11 go viral. For an organization that makes finding negative information about Hillary more difficult to ’Google’, why are they leaving her collapse at Ground Zero front and centre?

Before a single vote is cast in Election 2016, Obama is telling us that Hillary Clinton will be elected president. What is it that Obama, the global elitists and the Democrats know that the voting public doesn’t? There’s a snake or two waiting in the grass in the final stretch to election, in which the devil seems to be found in the details. Standing between a sorely needed rescue and restoration of America are some who look an awful lot like the Medusa of Greek Mythology. Medusa, a monster, a Gorgon, generally described as a winged human female with a hideous face and living venomous snakes in place of hair. Greek Mythology has it that gazers on her face would turn to stone. Sounds familiar.
