No tax reform this year?

Ted Cruz: 'You have good reason to be cynical' about our do-nothing Senate

Ted Cruz knows how angry you are. He gets that you're frustrated with do-nothing Republicans - particularly those in the Senate - who spent years promising an ObamaCare repeal only to stab the process in the back. He's frustrated too. ...And it sounds like he's bracing himself for more frustration, this time on the tax front.

"We're not delivering"

Cruz appeared on CNBC's "Squawk Box," where he was asked if anyone should really believe that the Senate intends to pass a real tax reform bill.
"We're not delivering. We're not getting the job done and people are frustrated. I'm frustrated. I promise you; as frustrated as you are, I'm banging my head into it every day. You have good reason to be cynical, and a lot of people across the country are ticked off. We've got an incredible opportunity - an opportunity that doesn't happen very often. Unified control of government for Republicans historically has been quite rare. And it's been the Senate that hasn't been able to deliver. You look at the votes over ObamaCare? Those were maddening."

Senate's inaction on ObamaCare was inexcusable

Cruz is right. The Senate's inaction on ObamaCare was inexcusable - particularly since those who torpedoed the repeal had voted for it so many times previously. So, does he think tax reform will suffer the same fate?
"I believe we will get tax reform done. I think it'll either be late this year or early next year. I think we're early in the debate. It's going to take at least a couple months - There are a lot of back-and-forths that are going to happen in tax reform - but I do think virtually every Republican wants to get to yes. And I think that's a really important pre-condition to get it done."
We'll see. Frankly, as long as John McCain remains in office, I have a hard time seeing the GOP wrangle those last three votes.
