Real political power is in the hands of the people. There is indeed “the power of the purse” but there is also “the power of the voting booth.”

TERM LIMITS or SLOW DRAINING THE DC SWAMP

One comment by President-elect Trump had a strong and vibrant ring with his followers and subsequent voters: Draining the Swamp in Washington. This is easier said than done as are many things in politics. When all things are considered, though, the push for it to happen immediately may not seem a distinct possibility. However, Term Limits is what really-really needs to be addressed to drain the DC swamp...
If Trump cannot get Term Limits put in place quickly, easily or with the cooperation of those in Congress, he needs to go on record on the major Media networks and say that the people can do it by just voting in new Congresspeople in the future and sending the Good Ole Boy RINOs home in the next election. RINO, by the way, means those Republicans who act more like Democrats by voting with them and voluntarily sitting with them on committees where no good Republican would dare go, not even to see what the rascals have up their limp-wristed sleeves. Most of those in DC are there because they convinced their constituents that they are what are needed in Washington. For Democrats, the fact that they are Democrats and sanctioned by the Party is reason enough for Democrats to vote for them and this is usually unquestioned by Democrats. For Republicans, the distinction is that they are elected because they are not Democrats who do not have state and national interests as a strong priority but loyalty only to the Democrat Party. What keeps most of those misfits in DC is the habit of getting pet projects, also called Money, for their states. When this happens, for example like Mitch McConnell getting money in one form or another for Kentucky (highways, parks, lakes, etc.), then Republicans are just like the Democrats, voting them in time-after-time for local benefits instead of what is good overall for the country. One would think that Term Limits is something Congress could or should do on its own with no prompting but you can bet it won't be done by them because that's what keeps them in Congress. It's THEIR priority, their bread and butter — the constituents can take the hindmost.

Real political power is in the hands of the people. There is indeed “the power of the purse” but there is also “the power of the voting booth.” People see that no matter what kind of benefits or how much money or how many projects are "sent back home" —that if their representatives don't vote the way the people want them to vote as their intended representatives— they need to be recalled. As an alternative, since a recall vote is touted by politicians as almost impossible and undoable, they need to be replaced in the next election. IF they were ever recalled, however, and it happens a few times, the DC swamp would take on new life and The People’s Representatives would begin doing what they were sent there to do, at least more often than not. Trump has a golden opportunity to influence "his" people, the ones that voted him into office, to see that even though Term Limits as not something that Congress inherently wants, the majority that voted for him can also take THAT power back, put it in the hands of the people and do what Congress will not do. The Term Limits idea has been around for decades and nothing has yet been done except talking about it when politicians are inept or they ignore their duties which is much too often. Will people make this a priority? Those that were really for Trump are mostly those who want this and they would do it. However, for some Trump may have to give more examples that he's actually for the people before they flock to his side on other issues. Therefore, he may have to wait for a while to cement his standing with more of the voters, after he's shown that he not only is what the people wanted and want but that his is also the mind of the people. In the long run, he could even gather more followers than the majority that elected him if he follows through in ways that voters expected of him and this includes Term Limits.
